I’ve been looking at the possibilities of having a bridge or an implant, but ideally i’d like to save the tooth that i have already.

Q.
I had a fixed appliance for 3 and half years to correct a number of issues, the biggest of which was an unerrupted upper left 3. The canine was brought into place and then i had a retainer to wear to keep everything in place. I stopped wearing the retainer after 2 years, and very gradually, the canine has been slipping backwards. Its starting to become irritating, not just athetically but also its infringing on the space that my tongue would normally occupy. What would be the best way to correct this problem? I’ve been looking at the possibilities of having a bridge or an implant, but ideally i’d like to save the tooth that i have already. Is there anyway of not having to have another fixed appliance?

Implant has moved up after 2 years

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr. Patel, I broke two of my front middle teeth in a fall when i was 13, it was like the two teeth got cut in half, so the doctor added some fillings in the gaps to make them look whole, after almost 5 years of going back and forth for checkups and refillings, the doctor noticed that one tooth was contaminated, he removed it and inserted an implant and did a crown for the one next to it, in between 6 months, somehow the implant took some part of my gum and rejected it i think, it caused a piece of my gum to fall off at the base of my implant, so my gum line is not even anymore, after the healing process he added the crown and the finishing touches on the implant and they looked pretty good, exceptfor the implant which had a gum colored base to replace the piece of gum that fell off, and thankfully i don’t have much of a gummy smile, after 2 years now, I noticed a slight difference in the height of my new teeth, either one of them moved a little bit up or the other moved a little bit down, it looks so awkward and doctor claims he has no idea how that happened. could you please enlighten me how that happens? Thank you

Is this a good choice for Implants rather than bridges or dentures, and are there other choices out there?

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, i am 33 years old and my x-rays shows my lower jaw wisdom teeth need to be removed on both left and right side as they are growing into my molers. Also my second molers ( ones next to pre-molers)have abcesses for a number of years, the dentist says they need to be extracted too as infection are still present in the root with some of the bones eaten away. Once they are removed, i was advised to have implants otherwise all i have is a independent rear molar on both sides and there be a risk of them becoming loose with no surrounding tooth for support! Is this a good choice for Implants rather than bridges or dentures, and are there other choices out there? My quote for the implants was about £4000, at the moment i am not sure this is for per implant or for the both implants, what is the normal cost of one implant all inclusive? around £2000 seems to be popping up on websites. Hope you can put my mind at ease as forking out £8000 is not an easy task!

Tooth removed because of gum disease i have temporary national denture. How much will implants cost

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
I have just had my top right small tooth and middle right big tooth removed because of gum disease caused partly from smoking and mainly through congenital gum disease and have been fitted with a temporary national health denture. I am finding this absolutely dreadful and am incosolable and want to have implants. Can you tell me how much it will cost and how long the whole procedure takes, will i still have to wear the denture till the process is completed or is there another alternative. My dentist also told me that I might need an implant with a cantilever bridge, can you tell me how much you think that might cost. many thanks
