Hello When I was 16 I wore a retainer to sort out my over bite and my front 2 top teeth which cross over (I was a thumb sucker as a child). My treatment was never finished. No, at 25yrs my main concern is my front two top teeth. One overlaps the other, the overlapping tooth get bashed quite a bit and the corner is slowly chipping/wearing away. Apparently I also push my tongue forward onto these two teeth every time I swallow (tongue thrusting) wish is slowly making it worse. I am looking to get my front teeth straightened but am not sure what sort of treatment this would involve and at what cost. Please could you advise on the best affordable solutions for me. Will drilling away enamel cause any problems in future?

Hello Dr Caplan. I am due to have my teeth straightened with Invisalign braces. As I don’t have enough room in my mouth my orthodontist is going to drill a tiny amount of enamel away between each tooth. I was worried about this as I always thought damaging the enamel in any way was a bad thing – but he has advised me this won’t cause me any sentitivity and the drilled areas will harden again over time, and actually become harder than before the treatment. I’m very unsure about this – can you please let me know what your opinion is? Thank you.

What kind of treatment can i get for jaw protrusion?

Dear Dr.Caplan I had braces at 26 and removed them 18 months later with excellent results. However, 10 years later, I now find a slight upper jaw protrusion. I did not continue using the retainer as long as I should have, could this be related? Can this now be treated without braces? I’m now 38. Thank you

Should i get my teeth removed?

Hi i’m 15 years old and i don’t live in uk (i’m a student studying in sri lanka) but please do answer my questions :)i’ve been visiting so many dentists and orthodontist for consultations on braces and all of them tells me that i need to extract 4 teeth if i wanted to get braces done.. well..i don’t want to remove any teeth but.. my front teeth are front and they slightly overlap and i’ve got an extra tooth on the bottom..other teeth are quite straight and they don’t look crooked and they (dentists and orthodontists also said that too) they say that i have approximately 8~10mm of space when i bite my teeth together and that my teeth are crowded.. would i really have to get my 4 teeth removed?

Is mild malocclusion normal during orthodontic treatment?

I’m currently having orthodontic treatment with the daemon system braces. I had mild malocclusion on the front upper & lower teeth however the braces have made my teeth spaced apart with several gaps in between my teeth which were never there before. Is this normal during treatment and will the gaps close back up towards the end of my treatment? cheers sophie
