I Have To Wear My Retainer To Hide The Gap In My Smile – What Are My Options?

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I have been self conscious about my teeth for almost all my life as I have a small gap between my teeth. I did have braces for a year and a bit however my gap never really closed although it did reduce in size. I still think about it and it effects my confidence. I wear my retainer whenever I go out in public as I am so embarrassed and quite aware of how it looks. My teeth are also quite small which I hate. I use my retainer, which gives the illusion of closed straight teeth and a full smile. However it has been about 4 years and I don’t want this problem to hinder me for the rest of my life. What can I do? I’m 17 years old and in need of your advice.

Can I still have braces although my wisdom teeth are missing?

Friday, April 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi there

I had braces years ago from the ages of 12 to 15.

Im now 34, i have 2 molars missing, one on each side on the upper jaw. I really would like to have braces again as my teeth are spacing out terribly again & my bite isnt straight.

Will i be able to have braces even though those 2 molars are missing?

Thank you so much in advance.

( please forgive me writing this part but it wont let me submit the question as there are too few words, but i dont really know what else to say or how better to explain what i need done. Hence these are extra words so that i may submit my question to you.)

What is the recommended amount of enamel you can remove from a tooth for Invisalign treatment?

Q.

Dr Hughes,

Could you please tell me what is recognised as the safe maximum amount of IPR per tooth?
I am getting Invisalign next month and to due to the fact that my teeth are protruding and I have crowding issues, to get the required result it appears I need to have .5mm taken off each side of my top teeth and .3mm off each side of my bottom teeth. Is there any risk to the long term health of my teeth?
Thanks
