I Have To Wear My Retainer To Hide The Gap In My Smile – What Are My Options?

Q.
Hello, I have been self conscious about my teeth for almost all my life as I have a small gap between my teeth. I did have braces for a year and a bit however my gap never really closed although it did reduce in size. I still think about it and it effects my confidence. I wear my retainer whenever I go out in public as I am so embarrassed and quite aware of how it looks. My teeth are also quite small which I hate. I use my retainer, which gives the illusion of closed straight teeth and a full smile. However it has been about 4 years and I don’t want this problem to hinder me for the rest of my life. What can I do? I’m 17 years old and in need of your advice.

Hi there, this is a common problem that many of my patients have and there may be a number of options available to you. I would need to see you if the teeth are as small as you say, you may want to consider spaced bonding, which might be an option to change the shape of the teeth you are most uncomfortable with.
