I need a root canal. Are there alternatives? Do dentist still use silver caps?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Do dentist still use silver caps? I need a root canal, however are there alternatives to treatment? This procedure cost too much and the crown is expensive as well. I was thinking maybe they can clean the tooth and then just put a silver crown to protect it.

I have a query concerning filling.

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I have a query concerning filling. I have 10 silver filling put in over the last 10 years (I’m 27) but I am concerned about the safety of them – due to the mercury – and I’m thinking about getting them replaced with white filling which I believe do not contain any mercury. Is this a sensible thing to do, or in your opinion unnecessary? Does removing old filling and replacing them with white ones present any problems in itself which I should be aware of? Many Thanks

Alot of my fillings are at the back of my mouth and I read that almagam are stronger than white fillings. Could you please advise. Thankyou.

I have yellow stained teeth and a lot of decay with silver fillings what would it cost to fix this

Monday, July 7th, 2008
Q.
I know it is hard to estimate without a consultation, but i just want to get an idea of costs. I have yellow stained teeth, and there seems to be decay between the teeths, on my lower and upper teeth. I have quite alot of silver fillings too, my dental health is poor. I am only 25 and it makes me so unhappy having horrible teeth, I always seem to be the one whos single out of my mates, I cant talk or smile properly because im afraid people will make fun of me, it makes me so unhappy and sometimes i just feel like killing myself. I cant even get a good paid job because i hate people looking at me. so I was just wondering if you could give me a rough price of how much treatement would cost, or at least a price list? I will not be able to afford it im sure, as I am in a poor paid job, and have alot of student debts, so I will properly be unhappy for the rest of my life but if you could give me an idea that would be great.

I replaced a silver filling and now my tooth is sensitive

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008
Q.
I had a silver filling on a back tooth replaced with a white composite filling 3 months ago. I have had a lot of sensitivity in that tooth ever since. Sensitive to hot cold and sometimes bite. It doesn’t occur without stimulus and isn’t prolonged. However, it is enough that it bothers me and I dont want to feel it. I use sensodyne which does help, however my other teeth are not particularly sensitive. I have been back to my dentist twice, she has x-rayed it and says sensitivity is normal and not to worry. She also put another ‘layer’ of something on it. I have read a great deal about this subject and dont know what to do next?! change dentist, replace it with a silver filling or onlay? This filling has caused a lot of discomfort and never felt right from the start. Would appreciate your opinion. Thanks Q
