The only cure available to my sensitive tooth is removal of the nerve

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
My front tooth and one my doubles at the side have become very sensitive – on the front one it seems to be at the very top inside I have been back to my dentist three times and he gave me some brown flouridge to apply each night but this has made no difference – he says the only way to cure it now is to remove th nerve. Years ago I remember that there was some type of coating that was put over the teeth and ultra violet light was used to harden it in fact I had a very tiny tooth next to my large front tooth and my dentist at the time made it a bit bigger using this method and it has lasted some 30 years – do you still use this method or have I no alternative other than to have the nerve removed and I assume a cap put on. I need to keep costs to a minimum.

My sensitive tooth has gone worse after the old filling was removed and new filling went in

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I have been suffering from sensitive tooth for more than a month. When I visited the dentist he used desensitized product to relieve the symptoms, which did not help. Now today I went again and he took little bit of my old filling and filled it with a new one and also around the sensitive teeth. My question is that I feel my tooth has gone worse do I need to give it time or shell I go back to him again. I tried to brush which was not pleasant.

Will the crown have to be removed and the root canals cleared?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I have a problem with one of my lower right side teeth. It had a root filing around 1990 with no problems. About 5 years ago the dead tooth stated to break up and so about 2 years ago it was fitted with a crown again with no immediate problems. However about a year ago I stated to get small abscess in the outside gum just below the crown line. It would occasionally bust releasing a small amount of milky fluid and then heal but only to reoccur a few week later. Now the discharge is more puss and erupts every 4 to 5 days. I can feel the pressure of the build up increasing in the interim. I presume I have an infection in one of the root canals? Will the crown have to be removed and the root canals cleared? Many thanks for your advice.

How could I get to the point of needing a RCT when I attend so religiously?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I had a small area of inflammed gum beside my upper incisor for a few months. I attend my dentist every 6 months and the inflammation didn’t concern my dentist unduly until at one appointment I mentioned that I occasionally get a ‘pimple’on my gum nearby. I was told I’d eventually need a root canal treatment.I’m now told that the time for this has come. How could I get to the point of needing a RCT when I attend so religiously? I was worried about discolouration (my dentist spoke of possibly needing internal bleaching in a few years)but after looking at this site I’m frightened that the tooth may also crack after treatment?! please help!

My crowned tooth at the front is causing me lot of pain

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hi. I have a crowned tooth at the front and it’s been causing me quite a lot of pain. My son accidently banged his toy into my front two teeth a few months back but my crowned tooth is still sore. It is painful to drink hot and cold drinks. I have been to my dentist this morning and he thinks it could need route canal work doing! Which sounds quite painful! I am on a dental health plan but my dentist says I will need referring to a specialist and could cost £1000. I am very worried. It sounds very sore and what if it does wrong? Will I be left with a gap? Or a plate with a tooth on?
