Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Q.
I had root canal done 2 years ago and have noticed that the filling used turned the tooth a shade of gray. Is it possible to refill with a white composite that is will make the chewing surface white and smoother. Thanks

I had a sharp shooting pain in a molar with some sensitivity what would be the reason

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009
Q.
Hi I would really appreciate your help. This afternoon I was having a cold drink when I experienced a sharp shooting pain in a molar I had filled a few months ago. I also experienced some sensitivity in another filled molar but not to the same extent. All this was accompained by a general ache in my teeth. This morning I had no pain and drank cold drinks with no problem, do you have any idea why the pain suddenly came on just a few hours later? I chewed a lot of gum today which I haven’t done for a year or so. Could I have chipped the filling? I checked in the mirror and there doesn’t appear to be any holes but maybe I missed them? I don’t really have the time or money to go to the dentist this week but I am desperate to sort this problem as it is my birthday this weekend. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you

I have a fractured root canal and is if there any side effects of having the tooth extracted

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009
Q.
I had a root canal on my right back molar. The root canal unfortunately fractured before the crown was put in place and I needed to have the tooth extracted. My dentist is giving me the option of an implant. When I smile the extraction can not be noticed. I don’t mind the space for chewing. My quesion is if there are other effects of having the tooth extracted (will the spacing of my other teeth change, will the top back molars descend if there isn’t a tooth to chew with on the bottem jaw). I would appreciate any advice that you might have.

My gums wont stop bleeding should i need a root canal treatment please advice

Saturday, June 6th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I wanted to ask about gum disease which I have suffered from for years now, I am 33 years old. I have been getting my teeth cleaned every 3-4 months, I use a sonicare brush, I regularly floss, but my gums won’t stop bleeding. I am very concerned now as I hated the way my teeth looked so I started Invisalign in March this year. When I wear the aligners, I often can see blood through them, I told my dentist this but he told me this can happen with Invisalign. I don’t know what I can do to stop this problem. Its got so bad that I avoid going out unless I have to as my gums bleed so often. I am missing out on so many things due to this. Do you think I need root canal treatment? I have had ex-rays done by 3 different dentists and all of them have said my teeth are alright, and that I just need to keep my regular routine of cleaning my teeth. Please can you advise me of what treatment you would recommend. Thank you

should i have a apicetomy of the root to save my teeth can you please give me any advice

Monday, May 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am a 23yr old female and approximaltely 2yrs ago one of lower central teeth got infected. I consequently had a root canal procedure. Following this i was asymptomatic, however I revisited my dentist to have that tooth bleached as it had become off colour. My dentist performed a bleaching procedure which involved inserting bleach within the tooth and I was told to return a week later to have it reroot filled. However following this my tooth area became painful and within 2 days i returned to have the bleach removed and the tooth dressed. Approximately 2 weeks later my tooth was still irratating and this resulted in an abcess again. I was given antibiotics and referred to the dental hospital for oral surgery (apiceptomy??). Approximately 2-3 months later when i visited the dental hospital, I was by that time completely asymptomatic. The consultant present felt the the surgery was not the best option for me at that stage and advised me to return to my dentist to have a reroot filling. He did offer another alternative of watching the tooth and taking a series of x-rays (to watch the chronic infection?) to see if it would recover itself (although he felt this may not be the best option). When i returned to my dentist (this is last summer), we decided to try the non-invasive technique and watch the tooth over a period of time. January of this year, I became symptomatic again with gental throbbing in my gum area around the tooth. I returned to my dentist and he advised that as there was no change on the x-rays and that there was no visible swelling or abcess to continue to watch the tooth. In march I had a severe mouth ulcer and as my dentist was closed i visited a different dentist for advise. On hearing my history he felt it was better for me (now being asymptomatic) to actually have the apicetomy done otherwise I would risk loss of my tooth. I revisited my original dentist who dismissed this idea. I am now left feeling very confused and as this is one of my frontal teeth I am worried about the outcome of this situation. Can please give me any advice..
