My Teeth Have Relapsed After Braces Treatment. I’m Scared They Will Relapse Again Due To My Tongue Thrusting. What Can I Do?

Friday, March 28th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel,
I had a bad thumb sucking habit until I was 15. I am 22 now.

I had braces when I was 16 to correct my overbite but my gap never completely closed. My teeth relapsed a bit but are still not as bad as they were before the treatment.

However I am still not happy with my teeth and wanted braces again to pull my teeth down. I am scared that they will relapse due to my tongue thrusting. I normally swallow by pushing tongue forward behind my front to teeth or even touching my lower lip.

I have tried to find places that correct this or provide treatment but have been unsuccessful. I am based in the Midlands and would really appreciate help and guidance.

Thanks, I hope to hear from you in the near future.

My Teeth Relapsed When I Caught Chicken Pox And I Couldn’t Wear My Retainer. Could I Get Braces Again?

Tuesday, January 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr. Hughes. I’m 15 and I had braces when I was around 13. My story is, my teeth are wonky because I didn’t wear my retainer. However my orthodontist knows I didn’t wear them because I caught chicken pox and it spread into my mouth so I couldn’t wear my retainer. I couldn’t wear them for around 4-5 week because it was to painful. Now my teeth are moving back and they hurt and feel really uncomfortable in my mouth. I was wondering if I could have braces again or even another retainer fitted to fix my problem, would I be able to get this on my NHS? Thank you.

When I Stopped Wearing My Retainer And Now My Teeth Are Starting To Relapse. Is There Any Other Way Of Straightening Teeth?

Friday, December 20th, 2013
Q.

I have had a standard metal brace for a year then I got rid of it. They then gave me a clear retainer mould of my teeth to wear every night. I wore the retainer for the first couple of months then I started to wear it less frequently until I came to the point when I did not wear it at all. During this time period, my teeth started to move again, the gaps began to return and now my teeth are straight, however I still have small gaps. I went back to my orthodontist and they have said wear the retainer everyday and I am going to do that but I am worried my teeth will return with gaps. My next appointment is in a month so I am going to trial this idea. I would like to know is there any other treatment that can straighten your teeth?

My Tooth Has Returned To It’s Original Sate After Orthodontic Treatment. What Are My Options?

Thursday, December 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi there,

I had braces many years ago but since then one particular tooth has returned to its original state.

I’m 23 now and am wondering what my options are, I guess I’m similar to other people in that the priority is invisible solutions.

My other question is whether the treatments are lessened, quicker, or different if there is one particular problem area as oppose to a mouthful of issues. For example getting lingual braces upon just the small surrounding area of the tooth in question. Any information would be greatly appreciated,

Kind regards.

I Am Really Against Having To Wear Fixed Braces, Should I Get Implants Or Keep My Natural Teeth?

Monday, September 30th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I had orthodontic work in my teens/early 20’s to straighten my teeth. I wore fixed braces for 6 years and had 6 teeth taken out as part of the procedure. I also had a bottom jaw operation to bring my jaw forward as it was believed this was causing my top front teeth to protrude. I wore retainers (top and bottom) for a year afterwards as prescribed. 12 years on and my teeth are relapsing. As an unconfident mid 30’s single female, I am really against having to wear fixed braces (I’ve been told this is the only proper way to fix my problem by several orthodontics) for another 12 -18 months and am now at a point of desperation where I want to have my top 6 front teeth removed and implants put in their place for a quicker and permanent solution as I’m terrified my teeth could relapse AGAIN after having had the work redone. Is this possible or are Cosmetic Dentists against removing healthy teeth?

I Want To Know Which Retainer Option Is The Best For Me As My Teeth Overlap Slightly?

Monday, September 23rd, 2013
Q.

Hello, I’m currently having treatment for minor relapse on my upper row. My two front teeth overlap slightly. Currently I have a spring retainer which I feel is working really well for me.

I was wondering which type of retention option do you consider to be the best? There are so many types now with many different pros and cons available.

Also, a friend of mine needed a new Essix retainer so I recommended the dentist who is currently completing my treatment. My friend has advised to me that the retainer she has just received is of very poor quality. How can I tell/ find somewhere that will provide me a good retention option?

Thank you in advance for your time.

I’ve Tried Many Treatments To Overcome My Root Canal Pain And I Don’t Know What To Do Next?

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013
Q.

Mark,

I had a root canal job done on a molar in October last year, however the pain has come back – I have tried various antibiotics, plus gone back to the Endodontic specialist in Manchester who has re-drilled the canals again and put a temporary dressing in. I still have the pain. The specialist suggests the next step is to send me to a neurolgist, as nothing is showing on the x-rays and there are no other options.

A friend in Canada is a specialist Endodontist and delivers PIPS Laser treatment (LVI Global based) and has suggested I try to find someone who practices this in the UK and also look for a dentist who has a TENS machine. I’ve not had much success so far. Any advice was be very gratefully received.
Thanks.

I have to wait 30-40 days for my ClearPath aligners to arrive, will my teeth change position by then?

Monday, September 3rd, 2012
Q.

Hi, I had finished my metal brace treatment some 6 years back. But over the time the teeth have relapsed now.
So I had now ordered ClearPath aligners thinking that they could help with my problem. So the bite impressions and moulds are taken and sent to the aligner manufacturer.
Here is my worry… It will take 30-40 days to receive the aligners. Is there a chance that my teeth are still relapsing, and it will move in 30-40 days? So is there a chance the aligner wont fit in my teeth, since the measurements have been changed since…?
Or is it like, the teeth can not move that much in 30-40 days, and also since I had finished my braces some 7 years back…? Thank you for any advice you can provide for me.

My front teeth have started to move, should I have orthodontic treatment or replace my veneers?

Friday, June 8th, 2012
Q.

I currently have two veneers on my front tooth and the tooth next but one, these were put on approx 13 yrs ago. They have lasted really well and I initially had them put on as after brace treatment these two teeth started to move. I am 43 yrs old. For the past 2 yrs, these two teeth have started to move again and are now pushing behind my other main front tooth, they look very wonky and uncomfortable. What would be the best treatment for me? An invisible brace or to have these two veneers removed and replaced and hope that stops the teeth moving. The current veneers did previously stop my teeth moving until approx 2 yrs ago.

Many thanks,

My teeth have relapsed after my Inman Aligner treatment, what should I do?

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012
Q.

Hi. 18 months ago I began to wear an inman aligner. After about 10 months I was happy with the movement of my teeth. My dentist fitted me with a fixed retainer. My teeth began to quickly move back. It was removed and a new retainer was provided – which I wore at night. Again my teeth began to move. A second retainer was made. This one doesn’t fit and hurts my gums. I keep going back to my final aligner to keep my teeth in position – but they don’t look as straight as they did when my treatment had finished. In summary – I’m really disappointed in this drawn out treatment that isn’t working. Please can you tell me what you think I should do and what my rights are in terms of getting a refund? Thanks.
