My teeth have relapsed after my Inman Aligner treatment, what should I do?

Q.
Hi. 18 months ago I began to wear an inman aligner. After about 10 months I was happy with the movement of my teeth. My dentist fitted me with a fixed retainer. My teeth began to quickly move back. It was removed and a new retainer was provided – which I wore at night. Again my teeth began to move. A second retainer was made. This one doesn’t fit and hurts my gums. I keep going back to my final aligner to keep my teeth in position – but they don’t look as straight as they did when my treatment had finished. In summary – I’m really disappointed in this drawn out treatment that isn’t working. Please can you tell me what you think I should do and what my rights are in terms of getting a refund? Thanks.

Hi

I would go back to your dentist and discuss your concerns first and foremost.

You could also seek a second or third opinion but bear in mind that access to your dental records and a detailed analysis of your treatment history is usually required before any an unbiased opinion can be given without conjecture.

Even with fixed retainers, some relapse of the final tooth position can occur so please also take this into consideration. My preferred option for my patients after finishing orthodontics is the combination of both a fixed and removable retainer, on each jaw treated, in cases where it’s possible and practical to provide this option – teeth still move a little with time despite this.

It would also be wise to make sure that your are funky dentally fit, especially with your gums and bite , as problems with these can often lead to adverse tooth movement.

Hope that helps

Best wishes
