Is there a way of preventing receding gums other than brushing and flossing

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello! I am 21 years old and I recently had two root canals done on my lower right side(molar and premolar), but due to insurance issues I am waiting until January to get crowns for them. I have realized that my molars on the left side(both top and bottom) look a little worn down on the lingual and buccal side. I believe my dentist has shaved the cusps of the two root canal-ed teeth and this might have messed up my bite(I can’t really feel it while chewing though). I wanted to know if this could be the actual case. I’m worried that my other teeth are going to get really ugly by the time I can get crowns. Also I have realized that teeth with crowns tend to have receding gums. Is there a way to prevent that other than the regular brushing and flossing? Thank you

My teeth whitening kit has completely receeded my gums Is this normal?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Q.
I recently used a home teeth whitening kit that apparently is dental grade. I trimmed back the teeth trays to the gum line as recommended but after using it only 3 times (for a third of the recommended time), I was horrified to find my gums have receeded completely and noticable back, as though they have been burnt off. It does not hurt. Is this normal?! Will they grow back? Should I ever use the product again? Please help! I am very worried about this. Thank you very much.

Is there a more effective treatment for receding gums

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Q.
Hello, over the last few years my gums have started to receed, as a result of this my teeth appear longer than normal. I visit my dentist regularly for a clean and maintain my own daily regime, but can’t see any significant improvement. Is there a more effective treatment for this. I am 39 years of age. Thank you.

Is there any way of getting a cosmetic gum graft for my receding gums

Friday, August 14th, 2009
Q.
Hi there, I’m wondering if you can help me. I hate my teeth so much that it’s starting to take over my life. I used to have fine teeth but now I can see very little problem and it’s driving me insane. I’m hopefully getting some bonding soon on a few teeth that have started to become transparent. But one thing thats irritating me most are my gums on the lower front teeth. When I was 18 I had braces (needed 4 back teeth removed for them) and years later (I am now 24) two gaps began to form at the bottom. I hated this and saw my orthodontist who gave me latex bands to move the teeth closer and thus close the gap as apparently there’s no need for braces as the alignment is fine. However, the gum around my bottom 2 teeth has receeded a little. It’s not severe, but I notice it and hate it, Also, there’s a small gap in between these front teeth – they go together on the top, but theres a gap before the gumline. I hate this – my teeth feel long and I feel hideous. I asked my dentist about a gum graft, but she said it is only for ‘severe cases’ and mine is not severe, even though I just dont want to smile anymore. (I’m not on NHS; I’m private and would be willing to pay for this.) Is there any way of getting a ‘cosmetic’ gum graft? And if so, do you know of any places in Wales who would do this? I hope you can help, it’s depressing me.

Will I be refused braces as my gums are receding

Friday, July 31st, 2009
Q.
I am seeing my dentist on Tuesday about getting braces and also because my gums are bleeding when I floss (I have only just started flossing due to crowded lower teeth). I also have some gum recession on my bottom lower tooth which is protuding outwards quite a lot. I receive treatment under the nhs and am wondering if there is anything that can be done about the gum receeding under nhs? Also will I be refused barces as my gums are bleeding or because of gum recession?

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

I am 53 yrs of age and had 4 of my front teeth removed when i was 13 years of age. I have had 2 bridges over the last 30 years but my only problem now is my gums have receeded and one can see gaps and they look unsightly and am very consious of it. Is there anything that can be done for that or is implants the only answer. Looking forward to your reply.

Im 30 and my gums are receding and my teeth are very sensitive to cold drinks please advice

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
Q.
I am a 30 year old mother of one. When I was in my early teens, I used to literally ‘peel’ my gums that rest on my teeth using my fingernails, and, I found that a new (thin) layer of gum used to grow back the next day, and I then used to continue this habit. I stopped for 2 years (mid-teens) when I had track braces fitted in, but then continued after they were taken off. I noticed when I was about 22 years of age that the thin layer of gums that I used to peel did not grow back, but I still perservered occasionally with this (yes, I admit!) bad habit! As a result, I have receding gums, and would like advice on what can be done to help restore my gums. Currently, because of my receding gums, I am finding that my teeth are very sensitive to cold drinks and foods. I would be extremely grateful for your help/advice please. Thanks!

My front teeth has been lose for a year do i really need to wait for the embarrassing moment

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Im 23 years old and have 4 crowns on my 4 upper front teeth. My dentist recommened them after an assault 3 years ago, He said the impact caused abcesses?I had them all route canaled but only 1 has a post. (I dont know why) The very front right has been lose for almost a year I can feel it move slightly when I suck on my tooth and I can push it with my tounge. I saw a dentist a few months back that said he didnt want to “mess with it” because it may be the tooth thats loose, not just the cap. But after living with this for a year, I’m growing impatient with not being able to bite into anything with my front teeth. Do I really just have to wait for the embarrassing moment when it finally comes off or out all together? Its killing my self esteeme, not to mention I paid heavily for my teeth in the first place. Thanks.
