Are gum diseases hereditary?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
Q.
I have suffered from receeding gums for years and have had deep cleaning treatment at sheffield teaching hospital. i m 43 years old. i have nearly always used a sonic toothbrush and for the last 3 years indent brushes and dental floss. when i was about 21 i had the skin that attaches the bottom lip cut because the dentist thought that it may be pulling the gum down. it made no difference. My dad suffered the same and had all his teeth out at 22, and his father before that at a similar age. Is it possible for this to be a hereditary factor.

Will implant help grafting of a bone?

Saturday, September 5th, 2009
Q.
Hi I would like to know if an implant has a better chance of grafting to your bone if done at the same time as the faulty tooth is extracted. Or if a period for the hole to heal is preferable. Thanks

I have periodental disease and receeding gums can i get my smile back?

Friday, September 4th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Moore, despite visiting my NHS dentist for the last five yeats, he did nothing to diagnose my periodntal disease, i was not aware till i lost a tooth and moved dentist. my new dentist has been excellent, and ive had periodontal cuerretge fora year now, the disease has been controlled. but the gum recession is absolutely shocking, i have been devastated and i am anxious to find out what soft tissue grafts might do to improve my smile. the dentist i ahve been seeing is not really knowledageble in this area.. and i am bewildered as to a good practise to visit who might be able to help in this area. any light you could shed (london or nearabouts) would be fantastic. kind regards.

Can u advice me on swelling and the pertaining infection?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Q.
Thank you for your swift reply to my enquiry regarding a swelling under my arm after an infected wisdom tooth. You said that the swelling could be related to the infection or I may have a dry socket. I have read a few websites and as I understand it dry sockets occur after the wisdom tooth has been removed – I have not had any surgery to remove my tooth just antibiotics for the infection, so could the swelling still be related?

Are dentures very realistic to the teeth?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Q.
HI, 2 YEARS AGO I HAD TO HAVE SOME BOTTOM FRONT TEETH REMOVED DUE TO GUM DISEASE. I HAD THEM REPLACED WITH DENTURES. I HAVE ALSO LOST MOST OF MY GUM AT THE BOTTOM. THE DENTURES ARE NOW QUITE LOOSE AND AS THEY HAVE SETTLED MY TEETH AT EITHER SIDE OF THEM ARE NOW HIGHER, WHICH MAKES ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. MY DENTURES DO NOT HAVE ANY GUM UNDER THE TEETH WHICH MAKES THEM LOOK LIKE FANGS. COULD YOU PLEASE ADVISE ME AS TO WHETHER A DENTIST CAN MAKE FALSE GUM DENTURES WHICH WOULD NOT MAKE MY DISAPPEARING GUM SO VISIBLE WHEN I TALK OR SMILE? I HAD MY TEETH DONE WITH A PRIVATE DENTIST BECAUSE AT THE TIME I HAD THE SPARE MONEY AND I HAD LOST TWO TEETH AT THE FRONT WHICH NEEDED ATTENTION VERY QUICKLY. I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR REPLY, REGARDS,

Does gum grafting work for receding gums?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi There, I’m 24, and I have receding gums on my bottom two front teeth. They have been like this since I was in primary school. I’m not sure why they are like but I did suffer from a poor diet when I was younger and was hospitalised due to sever dehydration. Anyway, I’ve noticed online a thing called gum grafting, but I’ve not really found much objective advice, mainly just adverts. Can you tell me is this a safe procedure, if it really does work, also could it make the problem worse? Thanks
