I had a crown fitted 5 months ago and now it fell out is it reasonable to ask for a refund

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q.
I had a crown fitted 5 months ago, it cost me approx £300 for a white one, it fell out tonight along with nearly all of the tooth underneath, I don’t think it can be repaired? all I’m left with is a big hole and no tooth above the gum line. Is it reasonable to ask for a refund? If i’d been warned it may not last long I wouldn’t have gone to the expense.

I two teeth which are need to be crowned will they be done in metal in NHS please advice

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q.
I currently have two teeth which by dentist said will benefit from being crowned. However he said that if I have these crowns on the NHS, they will have to be done in metal and will be seen as metal in my mouth, rather than porcelin and that to have a porcelin crown I will have to pay privately. I have tried looking for this information on the NHS website, under the band 3 information, however nothing is stated. Could you give me any information regarding this please.

i want to remove my gold tooth should i choose a white pocelain crown or tooth implant

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Q.
I have a front gold tooth that I want to remove. It’s 13 years old and has chipped at the tip. I am a professional now and attending board meetings with “important” people, where I do not want the stigma that associates with having a gold tooth. 1) Should I choose a white/pocelain crown OR do a single tooth implant? 2) Should I whiten my OTHER teeth before replacing the gold with a white/porcelain crown? 3) Or do you suggest something else?

I didnt like the look of the crowns for my front teeth what are my options advise

Monday, May 25th, 2009
Q.
I have a cross bite. I have just had three front teeth prepared for porcelain only crowns £600 each. Titanium posts have been fitted. These are my two front teeth & one on one side next to them. The other side one remains & is a good tooth I want to keep it. When the crowns arrived for fitting a gap was evident between one front crown & the real remaining side tooth. My dentist explained as the temporary crowns had been on so long the real side tooth had been pushed across by them. Also that my bottom teeth had moved upwards to meet the temporary crowns although not obvious, to add to this the colour was not as translucent as my dentist wanted so they were returned for adjustment. Personally I didn’t like the look of them but then that may have been initial feelings. While being adjusted one of the crowns was broken & the original impressions cracked. The technitions have now said that they won’t make more porcelain only crowns for me & metal/titanium is the only option. I understand my remaining real side tooth is very white & matching the colour is a problem – I want to keep this tooth. My dentist has also said I might have to have some lower teeth adjusted bacause of the cross bite, I don’t want to touch my lower teeth to accomodate the new crowns. Also I don’t really want metal crowns having decided on porcelian from the start. The end result being my dentist has said it is now the only option unless I want to see a crown specialist or another dentist & has given me time to think about it/decide. I need to sort this out soon as am aware my teeth are moving & I don’t want to make things worse. What do you think – what would you do?

my dentist advised me that i need a gold crown as it will provide protection can you advice

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, following a recent x-ray & examination of a tooth, my Dentist has advised me that I need a gold crown as it will provide the best long-term protection. I’ve heard about health concerns relating to mercury used for some treatment but noticed a recent enquiry mentioning no mercury content in a gold crown. I’m also considering a 2nd opinion as I would prefer enamel. Can you please advise. Thanks.

my one year old crown is smooth and worn could i have worn down a crown this quickly

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
I have three crowns on my teeth. One of my crowns has been hurting a pit and is pressure sensitive. The pain is minimal but because I have had so much dental work I have concern. This tooth has been canalled and has been treated by an endo and given the all clear to be crowned. I have been wearing the crown for over a year. My other two crowns are white all over but this crown appears to look grey on the top surface and is smooth and worn. Do you think I could have worn down a crown this quickly? Thanks,

Ihave just had a molar crown fitted and the biting surface of the crown feels very rough. Is this usual? The dentist said, “I’d get used to it”. Should I go back & have it seen to?

could you tell me what sort of crown is best to avoid the dreaded gum line any advice

Monday, May 18th, 2009
Q.
I recently visited a dentist to have three private crowns fitted assuming colour choice etc would be better. I clearly stated that I wanted to avoid a grey line at the gum and agreed to three ceramic crowns at £500 each. However at the appoint to start the procedure, the dentist said they were going to fit porcelain crowns and when I again mentioned a ‘grey line’, they said it would be an extra £50 per tooth to avoid this. Then when it came to choosing colour, they pulled out a rack with about 8 different shades each on a little wire. They were all quite yellow and none as white as my other teeth (which aren’t overly white anyway). They told me that if I wanted anything white, I would have to travel to a dental lab… and it would add a further £50 to the overall price. Surely, when paying for private cosmetic dentistry, you should have more of a colour choice. Also, could you tell me what sort of crown is best to avoid the dreaded grey gum line. Any advice or guidance is much appreciated, thank you.
