What can I do about my dissatisfaction with my orthodontic treatment?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I am currently having orthodontic procedure – I have finished with my upper invisalign and I am still wearing Lingual braces on the lower. I had an open bite and wanted to get it sorted, I am with a top london practice and only underwent the treatment as i was assured that the open bite would be corrected. I was quoted a timescale of 18 – 24 months for the lingual but has been nearly 3 years now and im really not happy about how it is going, the open bit in my view has not been corrected sufficiently – its now half bite on bit and half open bite. After a bit of reading up I think i should of had ligual on both upper and lower and then had bands applied which (so ive read) will correct minor bite problems..What do you suggest? have ligual applied to the top or is there any other way of correcting this as i am now thinking about some kind of cosmetic dentistry when the braces finally come off (!)… And yes I have posed the question to my dentist doing the work and he sugested cosmetic which i find strange as that wasnt really the idea i had in mind – hence i went for braces. Any comments appreciated. Kind regards,

I am due to undergo surgery to fix my underbite, what are the risks?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr. Hughes.
I am 17 years old and have had braces for about a year now. In December (hopefully) I am due to undergo surgery to correct my underbite. They plan to put plates into my top jaw to widen it and therefore bring it in line with my lower jaw which is not being operated on. Although I am fairly confident about the surgery, I have seen some scary pictures statistics and possible risks over the internet which have worried me. Please could you tell me how bad the recovery process will be and what are the risks in the surgery? thank- you

I have an overbite and a bridge, what are my options for correcting this?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr. Moore,

I am researching my options, learning more about my circumstances and would very much appreciate you opinion on my teeth and underbite.
I am 43 years old and have reluctantly tolerated my underbite all my life. For various reasons I was advised not to have orthodontic treatment in my teens. It was a choice I didn’t make but one I very much regret. My teeth are small, badly formed with many missing teeth. To rectify this I have 3 bridges which incorporate most of my upper jaw. (One is 25 years old and is 6 teeth long, but has stood the test of time!). The teeth on my bottom jaw are tiny (still milk?, unsure), with many gaps and missing teeth. My front teeth touch together to smile but to chew and, for my back teeth to meet, my lower jaw has to protrude to the point where all the bottom teeth overlap the top teeth and the edge of my bottom teeth rubs aginst my upper lip. I dream of a nice smile with no underbite. A few questions you may be able to help me with if possible. Am I too old to have anything done? Would indeed anything be possible considering my upper jaw is mainly bridges? What treatment would be available to me? What are the likely costs? I understand that only after examination an accurate indication can be given, but a rough idea would perhaps try and help me reach the decision as to whether this is a route I want to pursue once and for all. Or do I just carry on being me (which isn’t too bad) with an underbite but reluctant to smile?
Many thanks
Kind regards
Marina

Hi I have an overbite, would I be eligible for Invisalign?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

Hey there,

I want to know if I am eligible for Invisalign. I know it is very hard and vague but I have an overbite pretruding 5/6mm from the lower arch to the tip of the upper arch teeth. I prefer Invisalign to traditional metal braces as it is more comfortable. Would you be able to give me an idea of the pricing structure for overbites and their eligibility. It is a priority that I know I’m eligible before treaking out to a cosmetic dentist.

I look forward to your response.
