Ive a hairline fracture in my front tooth and will my retainer put pressure on them

Friday, July 17th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I had braces 3 years ago, and i still wear the retainer a few nights a week, I recently had an accident and have a hairline fracture/crack in my front tooth. It is difficult to see, you can only see it in certain light, I am worried that if i wear my retainer it will put pressure on the crack and cause it to get worse, it is a vertical crack going from the top to the bottom. It isn’t sore and my dentist had a great deal of trouble finding it. I have been to the dentist and was told not to worry, but I am not sure about wearing my retainer. I haven’t worn it for a little while because of this, and a few of my teeth have moved a little, I don’t really know what to do! Any advice would be appreciated.

My daughter teeth was extracted because one of the tooth space is too forward is it correct?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009
Q.
My daughter (13) is in the process of having her teeth straightened, they were slightly ‘bucked’ but not extremely so. The orthodontist said they were one tooth space too forward, I really didn’t want her to have any teeth out, but the orthodontist insisted it was the only and that he couldn’t treat her if this was not carried out. So much to my extreme upset, she had two teeth from her upper jaw extracted to make space for the teeth to move back. The process is nearly over, and although the teeth are beautifully straight, I have noticed her bottom lip now juts forward, has the process gone too far? She had a great smile before, but now I am worried about the bottom lip. Did I do the right thing? A friend of mine insisted her child’s teeth weren’t extracted, and much against the orthodontist will, he carried out the process without extraction and the child’s teeth are great. He even admitted she (the mother)had made the right decision. Thank you.

My dentist said i need to have my jaw broken and taken back can you advice me on the procedure

Thursday, July 16th, 2009
Q.
As a teenager I was given the option of having braces but obviously as a teenager I refused to have a brace at that age!! At 33 I now wish I had. My bite is so far apart it now gets me down when I see my smile on pictures etc. I saw a dentist last year who told me the only way I could now rectify this would be to have my jaw broken and taken back. I am keen to hear of this procedure and any other procedures which may help. Although I am desperate to do something I am also concerned on what the cost would be as my teeth also need quite a lot of work due to staining etc. If there was one thing I could change about myself it would be my smile. Can you please advise me on any procedures, clinics and costs? I live in the Northwest of England. Thank you.

My dentist recommends surgery for my jaw i wonder short root tooth will affect the surgery

Thursday, July 16th, 2009
Q.
Hi. i’m 25 and have recently been referred to a hospital consultant for suspected TMJ disorder, as i have been experiencing severe jaw pain, neck pain and ear ahce, my dentist recommends surgery because of my complex jaw. i also have a bad underbite of about 1cm and severe crowding of my lower teeth. when i was a teenager i had braces on my upper teeth, but never my lower teeth – they wanted to do jaw surgery but my parents refused. when i was 21 i found out i had shortening of the roots on my top teeth. could you tell me if it is possible to have jaw surgery with braces only on my bottom teeth as i’m sure they will not want to apply a brace to my top teeth? or will the short roots prevent them from doing the surgery at all? Thank you for any help you can give me.

My adult canines are squint and pointing at top front teeth is this a serious problem?

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I’m 15 years old and still have my top baby canines. Having recently been to the dentist, i was giving an X-ray to locate the adult canines. After looking at the X-ray we discovered that my adult canines are extremely squint and are pointing in the direction of my top front teeth. My dentist is reffering me to the Orthodontist to see what can be done about this. I was just wondering how serious this is, and how they would be planning to fix the problem? Could my dentist have stopped this happening by removing the baby canines before now?

Im 22 and i still have a baby canine tooth what are the option to fix it and the cost?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
Rob, I am 22 years old and still have a baby canine tooth on the bottom left side of my mouth. After visiting my dentist yesterday with my concerns that the baby tooth is wobbling and the gum is receding, I was told that the adult tooth is actually trying to push though. The adult tooth is now clearly visible underneath my baby tooth but is also coming in at an steep angle under my lateral incisor. I have been referred for treatment but am worried about what my options are and the cost? Thanks.
