Wisdom teeth is coming through and need a braces is it covered under NHS?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009
Q.
Hello there, Sorry to bother you but I have two quick questions if you could answer them please? I have previously had fixed braces (both) when I was younger, my bottom brace only stayed on for 4 weeks instead of 6 months as planned. I then had them both removed (after having top on for 1 1/5yrs prior to bottom) and wore the retainer 24 hrs a day for the year. I then went for the yearly check up point and my retainer was taken off of me. My teeth went wonky within months, and I have been too scared to go back. I get really upset about my teeth and suffered alot with braces to still have wonky teeth. I am 19 and in full time education and have swapped dentist now. My wisdom teeth have been coming through for a year and causing me grief, will they fit braces with the wisdom teeth growing through and are they likely to get funded by the NHS? Sorry its so long and hope its understandable for you to answer. Many thanks

I have series of dental treatment issues and need your suggestions

Hi, I live in York I’m 17, and I had my teeth sorted about a couple of years ago. I’ve had treatment on my teeth since I was 8, and I still wear braces now. My teeth were perfect after I had traintracks, and I was given a clear bottom retainer (which I still wear). At the time I did wonder why I wasn’t given a top one as well. He replied that if I wear the bottom one, it will keep the top ones in place. It hasn’t. I have 1 reasonably out of place, and two others slightly. I know that it doesn’t sound like much, but from having my teeth perfect, and wearing my retainer like I should have, makes me rather annoyed in a sense. I’m almost 18, and I was wondering if I now had to pay for treatment, ie retainers etc? And also, I am still in full time education, due to me having to re-sit the whole two years of my A levels, as I have been very ill, and hospitalised occasionaly. I will finish my A levels when I am 19. So would still being in full time education mean that I can still have treatment on my teeth for free? Thank you for your time, and I do not mind if you cannot fully answer my question.

Have lost the Inman aligner how much would it cost to replace?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I have had a Inman Aligner treatment and I finished it. But my dentist suggested I wear the Inman Aligner after the treatment for few more months so I have worn it for more than 10 months(I guess, but I did have proper treatment before wearing Inman Aligner with metal thing). Unfortunately, I lost it today and I don’t think I could find it and moreover, I don’t I could see my dentist again, as he is in different country. I want to have a new Inman Aligner, the appliance, but not the treatment, as I have finished it already. How much do you think, in this case, would cost me to have an Inman Aligner? If it is far over £500(but I do hope that the cost would be far less than 500, as I DO NOT NEED ANY TREATMENT, BUT JUST THE APPLIANCE), could you recommend me other appliances that might be suitable to keep the “already rearranged shape”?(And that should be fairly cheap, because my parents have already paid quite a lot to arrange a treatment for me and they do not want to spend extra money, which means that I have to pay)

I have couple of rotated tooth which leaves a gap when I smile

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009
Q.
Hello Doctor,I’m 13 years old. The 2 teeth to the sides of my front 2 teeth are slightly rotated and leaves a gap when I smile. I’ve been to the orthodontics and they refuse to give me treatment under the NHS. So i would like to know what the best treatment to straighten my side 2 teeth would be, also i would like to know the approximate amount of the treatment if i did it privately. Thankyou

Braces have left back a traces can it be corrected?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009
Q.
Hi I had braces when I was about 11 years old and at that time braces was not such a common thing like today. However, when I took off my braces, it left the trace of the braces of my front two teeth and I have practically been living with that for the past 8 years. I know it’s because of decalsification of the enamel or something like that. So basically you can see the brackets of the braces on the front too teeth and its stands out because it is a different whitish color. Can I do anything to get rid of this? It does lower my self esteem in a way and I wish my orthodontist had warned me about it at that time so I would have taken extra precaution. I just want to smile with confidence. I also have some a problem with some of my teeth being yellow. Is there anything that can be done?
