I have been told I need teeth removed and that bridges are not available on the NHS. Is this true?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010
Q.
Good afternoon, I recently had a check up at my local dentist and was told that I need a tooth removed upper level either side. I was offered bridges but told they are no longer availbable on the NHS so had to pay private. Is this true as I know a lot of dentists are out for more money. Thanks in advance,

I had a infection in a tooth I was given some antibiotics and was told i needed a root canal filling (?) by a private dentist. I then went to see a NHS dentist who told me that the tooth was fine and it did not need a filling… both took x-rays of the tooth? I have no pain at the moment so who do I belive.. regards,

Is there any treatment available to address my gummy smile and my crooked teeth?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010
Q.
I used to have braces until I had them removed last year because it was the end of my treatment. I had had them for five years. Yet I still have one of the worst smiles I think I’ve ever seen. My teeth are a lot straighter than they were before the braces, which I had because I had protruding teeth, but I still have trouble closing my mouth fully and properly because my front teeth are still too far forward, and aren’t completely straight. I also have quite a gummy smile. Is there any treatment that would be suitable and affordable (or on the NHS) so that I can have a nice smile for the first time in my life? Thanks for the help.,

Do NHS offer any ‘invisible’ brace treatments? I want a discreet brace but cannot afford private treatment?

Thursday, August 19th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Solankie, I am considering having my teeth straightened, however am unsure as to waht is the best method to use. I would like to know the costs of certain treatments and if they can be offered on the NHS? I am 25 years old and so don´t want something that is really obvious, however can´t afford anything like Invisiline which I have heard is very expensive. I like the idea of the brace which fits behind the teeth so you can´t see it. Are their any other options i could look into? I don´t know if it makes any difference to cost but it is only one side of my mouth where my teeth are crooked – the other side is completely straight! It is quite bad though and knocks my confidence alot. Any advice on costs etc you can would be very much appreciated. Thank you.,

I am having really bad trouble with tooth pain and my dentist might have made it worse. Should I seek a second opinion or continue with my current dentist?

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I had my impacted wisdom tooth extracted 4 weeks ago and my molar tooth has been badly damage. The filling on the neighbouring tooth crumble according to the surgeons. I have been to my dentist to have another filling put in last week but have started having throbbing pain which resulted into an unbearable pain which i needed to go back my dentist in an emergency. The dentist i saw advised me to to have the tooth taken. I declined as the upper tooth directly rest on the damage tooth. The dentist suggested a denture, bridge or a crown. I liked the idea of a bridge or a crown but the dentist said putting a crown in might not be successful as having a root canal procdure can be difficult as the damage tooth is right at the back of my mouth and also the NHS wont cover a bridge since it’s not a tooth missing in the front. The dentist have been working on the root canal procedure and havent been successful with a and reckons she night have gone beyond the root and damage the tooth. Please i am in a dilemma and i need a second opinion what to do as i need a tooth to support the upper tooth otherwise it will down on my gum. Shall i see another dentist or carring seeing my dentist as i have been appointed again on the 26th August ’10? Many thanks,

Braces left my teeth with uneven marks. I have looked into Veneers but I have also been recommended whitening products. Any advice?

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Kailesh After wearing braces as a teenager on top and bottom, I have been left with badly marked teeth giving them a very uneven look. There are white marks on each tooth making the rest of the tooth look discoloured. I spoke to my Dentist about options and she tried to discourage me from Veneers (I left thinking that the process was to drill the teeth down to a peg then fit over a whole crown!) She has suggested to try Whitening but am I correct in thinking that if the whole tooth is whitened then the white patches will also whiten? I am not looking for a dazzling white smile, I simply want my teeth to look even again. Please can you let me know what you would advise. I would also like to know what I should expect to pay for Veneers or if they are available on the NHS. Thanks ever so much in advance for any advice you can offer.,
