Would I Still Qualify for Free Braces with the NHS?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2015
Q.

I went to an orthodontist when I was 18 and they said I needed braces, but under his licence he could not give them to me because of my age and so sent me to an NHS hospital to get them done. I have a 6-9mm overbite and I was advised to have jaw alignment surgery, but I refused because I did not want to change the shape of my face. However I was still eligible for braces. The dentist took pictures of my teeth and took scans and a cast.

However, at that time I was taking exams and so could not discuss any further as the appointments interrupted my revision/exam time. I am now in university and still want the braces. Is my condition serious enough for free braces or could it still be counted as cosmetic?

Can I fix my terrible teeth fully on the NHS?

Monday, October 4th, 2010
Q.
My teeth are in a terrible state. I have lots of broken teeth and my gums have receded. I am scared of the dentists after having a bad experience when i was in my early 20s. I am now in a position were i will have to overcome my fear as i am desperate to get them sorted but i am unable to afford the treatment. Can i get full treatment on the NHS and is it possible to attend a NHS hospital rather than a general surgery? My self confidence is at an all time low.,

Is the information I received regarding free braces true?

Friday, July 16th, 2010
Q.
Im 27 years old and will be on maternity leave, I have been advised by my friend who is a dental nurse that I can request that my dentist refere me to an NHS hospital to have braces fitted for 3 months for free due to my excemption from dental costs for one year after my child is born. Please can you confirm if this is indeed true and if so how do I go about having it done.,
