Is there a minimum level of ‘crookedness’ needed for treatment on the NHS?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

My daughter has just returned from an orthodontist appoitment where she was told her teeth were crooked but not enough to get the work done on the NHS but she could pay to go private. Is there a minimum level of ‘crookedness’ needed for treatment on the NHS?

I need to fill a gap in my teeth. What is a cheap and effective treatment?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

Hi

I have had my first molar back taken out and am looking for a solution to fill the gap. My dentist recommended a valplast partial denture @ £350 private as it was a simple solution. My rear molar (not wisdom this is still coming threw) is heavily filled and not much tooth there and might need root treatment yet. My thoughts were on th NHS I could have the root treatment + crown it, crown the other tooth and have a bridge. It is my understanding that all this would be at the 1 price of £198 (or £177 not sure) as I have read there is 1 charge for work needed under the same treatment.

Your thoughts on this option please?

Regards

Im getting crowns…What type of crown would you recommend, what looks the best? Do the nhs use poor material compared to private…as this is what the dentist told me? would i need posts or bridges with the nerve being dead? Please advise as it has really knocked my confidence…but dont know what to do?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

I try and look after my teeth, brushing very regular, strong mouthwash etc, but my dentist has told me that I have naturally weak teeth. I have fillings in almost every tooth and a recent pregnancy has made exsisting problems worse. Iv not got many back teeth left. Im only 26 and dont want dentures at such a young age. I cant afford implants or veneers, is there any help availiable to me? Will my maternity exemption certificate cover any cosmetic dentistry?

Having previously had braces, will I be able to have them fitted again by a NHS dentist?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I had 4 teeth taken out and a fixed metal braces when I was younger, but my dentist took these off before the gaps had fully closed. I was just happy to have them off at the time. But now at 23 I am conscious of these gaps as you can see them when I smile, and my front teeth have moved forward rather than sitting straight. So, my question is, is private the only way I can get the ‘perfect smile’ or can I get braces again with an NHS dentist (obviously I would have to pay), and if so what braces do the NHS offer and what are the average prices? I think I would probably prefer the wire behind the teeth! But would like to know my options. Many Thanks For your time!,
