How can I overcome my fear of the dentist and seek treatment for my broken/rotten teeth?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

Hi i have the biggest fear of seeing a dentist. I have had a fear since childhood and the fear has now caused me to have rotten, broken and loss of teeth, I am only 31 and suffer a lot of pain at times but am too embarrassed to see a dentist. I avoid smiling as my teeth don’t do any justice to me. I have no confidence and at times I’m in so much pain i can’t focus on other things due to lack of sleep. Please help!!!

I have been ill lately and unable to clean my teeth, which has eroded the enamel. I am scared to go to the dentist. Can you help me?

Q.
I haven’t been to the dentist in a few years. The last dentist I saw was rude and hurt me alot over a simple fissure seal, and ignored me when i told him so. This has made me really nervous about seeing another dentist since then. In the last few weeks I have noticed some of my teeth are slightly sensitive and I have enamel wearing away on three of my top teeth near the gum line. I have always looked after my teeth so I realise I have to go to a dentist soon but I don’t really trust dentists anymore and was wondering if you had any idea what could be causing my enamel wearing away? I have problems with my stomach and tonsils the last year which means now and again I get very ill and throw up alot. Its since then that I have had problems with my teeth and thought it might be because I can’t brush my teeth well during these “ill times” very well as my throat swells and the slightest pressure on my throat makes me sick. I would just like an idea of what it could be before I pluck up the courage to see a dentist again. Thanks,

Hi,am 36 and have just had 10 bits taken out of my mouth, they weren’t all full teeth due to some of them breaking. I had IV sedation beacause am a very nervous patient at the dentist, so my own dentist referred me to a specialist dentist. My own dentist said the best option for me is to have a plate fitted,am just wondering how long i will have to wait until i have my plate fitted and will it hurt? I had my dental surgery 3 weeks last thursday.,

My gums have started to recede and it’s really embarrassing. Is there anything that can be done?

Monday, August 16th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I have got quite a big smile and I have always thought my teeth were my best feature. I must have been brushing too hard because the gum line has receded on the left side of my mouth. This is especially true for one tooth in the bottom left hand corner of my mouth which is giving me a lot of pain. The gum around my left top front tooth has receded a little and food keeps getting trapped between the tooth and the gum line. This is really embarrassing and is stopping me from going out with friends or eating in front of anyone without having to run to the toilet between every course. I am 25 and I don’t want to have to keep worrying about this. Is there anything that can be done? I don’t have a dentist at the moment as I have a bad experience a few years ago and I’m nervous of going back. Any help would be great.,

I need a tooth removing – will sedation help as I have TMJ?

Thursday, February 18th, 2010
Q.
hi, i hope you can give me some advice as i dont seem to be getting anywhere with my dentist. i had an abcess in my top right molar ( the first big one) the dentist drained it and put antibiotics in it, and temp filling til i can get the tooth taken out. i was still getting pain in the cheek area but i also have TMJ, which is why i can not have root canal as its hard for me to keep my mouth open for long periods of time. i have been referd for IV sedation as i am a nervous patient and im a little worried on how this will be, but also my wisdom tooth on that side is grinding on my bottom molar, and causeing a dull ache, my dentist said its a dead tooth and i have a cross bite, what does this mean? im 34 and never had a problem with my teeth til 3 months ago.,
