Can you gimme some information about expandable jaw retainer?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr. Moore, I,ve heard of a new type of expandable jaw retainer that you wear behind your teeth to widen a narrow smile. I’m very interested in learning more about this, but I’m having trouble finding any info on it. Is it just too new right now? If you know anything about this, I’ll take all the info/suggestions you have. How long do you think it would have to stay on? How much would it cost? What’s it called? Could any Dentist/Ortho do it? Also, are ALL dentist’s considered cosmetic dentist’s or should I look for one that specailizes in it. Thank You.

Please advice me on lowering the floor of the mouth and building up mandibular band

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Dear Sir, I’ve been “selected” for a procedure that I am not familiar with and want to find out more information…I have been waiting for approval though a county dental facility to have the rods or implants for witch the denture can be attached to…My oral surgeon called and said that while I wait for the OK for those rods/ implants..He would like to perform something..I am not sure of the exact label for the surgery..it involves Lowering the floor of my mouth..? and building up mandibular area..they want to take a skin graft from my buttocks and use it as a graft for my mouth..They want to do this because my lower jaw was without a denture for 8 years..not that I didn’t have one but got poor dentistry at the time and it did not fit and cut me badly..result..stopped using lower denture to my detriment. Does any of this sound familiar to you..I am 56 years old and in fairly good health in spite of wheel chair status…part of the reason I am in a wheel chair and lost my teeth was because eight years ago I was misdiagnosed as having end stage breast cancer to the bone…I didn’t though but was placed in a Morphine induced comatose state for a year..till they figured out their mistake and withdrew the medications…however I lost most of my teeth..then when I woke up I had to have the rest of them removed…I need some direction here..I am scared to go under anesthesia for 2 hours! In addition I need to know the possible side effects for such a procedure. He said it would be that long…scares me when you consider all of the medical mistakes I have endured in one life time…maybe I am over thinking this..but I need to do research..But don’t no where to turn..he did say this procedure was a common one before implants…what is he talking about..I will have further instruction next week when I go in but want to be educated enough when I go to ask the right questions..Can you please direct me to some educational material..I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

Is there any other alternatives for removable braces?

Friday, August 21st, 2009
Q.
My child has just had a removable brace that she should wear 24hrs a day and she is completely refusing to keep it in her mouth for more than ten minutes. Its a brace that will bring her bottom jaw and teeth forward due to faces she used to pull as a younger child. I am wondering if there is a way to have a similar brace wired inside the mouth? She is autistic so she refuses to wear it more than an average child as it is. Thank you for your time

My jaw is bit to forward can I get it fixed in NHS for free

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have a cannine tooth stuck up under the roof of my mouth, I was told this when I was 13 & needed fixed braces as my teeth were in very bad shape and over crowded, I wouldn’t go ahead with it as I was terrified of needles and the operation I had to have. Since then, I have been bullied my way out of comprehensive school and had to move schools, but the bullying still continued. I am now 19 and still get nasty remarks made about my teeth, which has destroyed my self esteem badly and even caused depression. So I decided to ask my dentist to refer me to the orthadontist at a hospital. I had xrays taken and he said that the tooth is still there and would need further xrays to see if the tooth that is stuck has done damage to roots of my front teeth and I would need a couple of teeth taken to make room for the cannine tooth that is stuck. And also wear fixed braces for two years. He also said that my jaw was a bit to foward. As I am 19, the braces I will have to pay for myself, but cannot afford them. The orthadontist at the hospital said as I needed alot of work done, I might be able to get them free of charge under the NHS, so I phoned the Local Health Board up, but I don’t think they really understood my problem. Now I am really unsure on what to do, and if I am covered for all of this under the NHS and how would I find out. Thankyou for your time 🙂

Ive overbite and my dentist suggested to get my jaw broken can u advice?

Sunday, August 16th, 2009
Q.
HI, I have an overbite, but I went to the dentist this week and they said my bottom jaw has grown enough to meet the top. So I would need braces then I would need to get my jaw broken and then braces again. I am very worried about this but I hate my teeth and the way they look. Would you be able to give me any advice? Or information to look into about realigning my jaw? Thank you very much

Would I be able to get jaw realignment surgery done on the NHS

Sunday, August 16th, 2009
Q.
I am 24 years old. About ten years ago I was under orthodontic treatment. I was offered to have surgery when I was roughly 17 to correct my jaw alignment. The options were to bring my upper jaw forward and my lower jaw back and to move my jaw back to the right as it leans more on the left. Aswell as have braces. At the time I turned down the surgery as I felt it was too much of a major operation although my confidence was very low. I was discharged at that time. Now I have re considered having the surgery as my self confidence is even worse, causing paranoia and my self esteem is at its lowest. Alongside this I believe the gap between my teeth has increased and my jaw leans more towards the left than it used to. My jaws ache quite often and I have difficulty breathing through my nose, and it feels blocked alot of the time, I have read that this can be caused because my top jaw is too far back. I am almost certain that the orthodontist told me that if I changed my mind, the option was always there until I was 25 years old. I am 25 in December of this year and am worried that I won’t be able to get this surgery done on the NHS as I can’t afford private treatment. Could you tell me if I would be able to get this done on the NHS now? Many Thanks,

I have braces and when I started my treatment I was told they wanted to pull four teeth out two top and two bottom but I didn’t do it. My daughter is 10 and the dentist has advice to have crown fitted on her is it the best option?

Friday, August 14th, 2009
Q.
Hi. My daughter has had trouble with her teeth since she was a toddler. I have been advised that this was due to her having suffered from a severe bout of Chicken Pox at the time when her tooth enamel would have been forming. Now aged ten, her dentist has advised that when all her adult teeth are through, she should have crowns fitted. Can you tell me, is this her best option? Also, because of her age, this will be done ‘on’ the NHS. What materials should we expect to be used? I’ve been told crowns should last between 10-15 years, if the materials used are of good quality. I’d hate for her to be troubled by her teeth all her life. Thanks.
