My daughter is 10 and the dentist has advice to have crown fitted on her is it the best option?

Q. Hi. My daughter has had trouble with her teeth since she was a toddler. I have been advised that this was due to her having suffered from a severe bout of Chicken Pox at the time when her tooth enamel would have been forming. Now aged ten, her dentist has advised that when all her adult teeth are through, she should have crowns fitted. Can you tell me, is this her best option? Also, because of her age, this will be done ‘on’ the NHS. What materials should we expect to be used? I’ve been told crowns should last between 10-15 years, if the materials used are of good quality. I’d hate for her to be troubled by her teeth all her life. Thanks.

A. !0 years old is very young for crowns as the teeth are still erupting and the jaws growing. If they are really bad I would maybe try bonded resin to restore the teth or stainless steel crowns until she is 16+ then she could have permanent crowns made.
