Am i correct in thinking an inlay wouldnt offer any benefits to a normal filling other than aesthetic

Thursday, April 30th, 2009
Q.
Dr Solanki, I have a dilemma I hope you cna help me resolve. Im 29, have good upper back teeth apart from one (3rd from back) that I used to have a mildly annoying discomfort from when running. WIth hindsight I would have left it! but my dentist proceeded to root canal it and I now have a huge black filling after a few attempts to resolve. A little piece at the back recently chipped off and has been refilled. My dentist is suggesting an ceramic inlay or a crown. Am i correct in thinking an inlay wouldnt offer any benefits to a normal filling other than aesthetic? Secondly, would you suggest fitting a crown now (destroying a lot of tooth) or leaving it until it really needs it if it cracks etc? Many thanks in advance

my front right tooth is just out whether inman aligner or 6 month smiles is my best option

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I wonder if you could help me? I’m looking at the different treatments that are on this website and im not 100% sure what I should be going for. I have an underbite and because of this i had to had one of those braces that pushes your bottom jaw forward. I had this when i was in school and never really wore it due to peer pressure etc, i did wear it a few times but got bullied for it… even though i never really wore it at school the position of my teeth has moved slightly, even though my dentist at the time said the position of my jaw had improved and that i was ready for train tracks the lady at the hospital said otherwise and said i had to wear the jaw brace for another year or so. This is the point where i gave up on it as i figured if id worn it for the year already and it hadnt done enough then what was the point. I cant quite remember my age at the time. Also my right front tooth juts out and i am very self concious of it. I am quite scared of going to the dentist, i havnt been in a long time (since my jaw brace) . I do brush my teeth day and night and use mouth wash etc but still have a build up of plaque etc on the back of my lower front teeth. It gets me down quite a lot and people think im misserable as i never smile. I notice it all the time when i go out shopping etc as when i speak to someone instantly they look at my teeth. It makes me feel very unactractive and think that maybe having cosmetic dentistry is the way for me to go. I looked at the inman aligner and the six month smile and a couple of others but im not sure what to go for. I’m only 20 years old and i should be enjoying life but this really gets me down. I need this fixing, Iv started my new job up in London, so i feel like im actually starting to get somewhere but at the same time i feel like my apperance is holding me back. I haved lived in Essex all my life and have dreams and aspirations like everyone else but i just feel that with these teeth … im not going to get anywhere fast. Any information would be greatly appreciated. (sorry for ranting on but i had to tell you the whole story 🙂 )

i am very upset about my inman aligner braces and hope you can help

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr Solanki I have the inman aligner brace which I have had in since sept 2008. Now although they have moved there is still my front second to left tooth which still needs pushing out more but according to the brace it is in alignment therefore has no more room to be pushed out?. Also my fang teeth seem to have gone in and are now on a slanted angle instead of straight which is making the front second to right tooth which is in a perfect postion slighty stick out due to the fangs going in?? Hope that this makes sense? I am very upset about it and hope you can you help!! Thank you Kind Regards

for something like inman braces do you think it would be costly or is it the effective way

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
I really fancy the idea of having the inman braces as I have quite a few gaps between my upper teeth which I would like to close in whilst pushing my teeth back slightly. I just think that my mouth potrudes a bit at the moment. For something like this do you think it would be costly and is this the most effect way?

Is there orthodontist treatment provided in Bedfordshire NHS?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Julian Caplan My front 4 teeth are quite pronounced, which makes me very depressed and I have lost a lot of confidence. I always smile with my mouth closed and will always try and cover them up as much as possible. I had a brace when I was younger for around 2 years, which helped immensley but eventually they have just slowly moved back (not to the extent of when I was a child), but it’s got to a point where I am extremely conscious. I have spoken with my dentist who has put me in touch with a local orthodontist but the cost is way out of my price range. Is there anyone I can contact to see if I can have it done on the NHS, or perhaps a scheme where the NHS make a contribution? I am desperate to have this sorted as it is making me very unhappy. I live in Bedfordshire, I am 25 and work full time. Any advice would be gratefully received.
