Hi Dr. Moore, I lost a tooth in the front of my mouth many years ago and I have always wanted to close the gap. Will this be possible with implants after a long time of no tooth there?

My crown has loosen and small infection has appeared should i take the tooth out or have apicectomy

Friday, June 19th, 2009
Q.
I have a crown in upper tooth #2 which has been there for over 15 years. I have a minor infection about 5 years a go when my crown came a little loose. It was treated with antibiotics and all has been well, until now. The crown has come loose again and a small infection has appeared in the gum above. It does not cause any pain, but I went to the Dentist immediately. The X-Ray showed that some of the root canal had escaped from the tip of the root and was causing the infection. I have therefore been given two options: a) take the tooth out, b) have an apicectomy. Not a great choice, but I am in a real dilemma. I don’t like the sound of an apicectomy but I don’t really want the root removed because I would have to have a bridging crowb of some sort. Is having a apicectomy really worth it? Can it cause more harm than good? If I have a bridge, I believe its life span is 10-15 years. Is it easily removed and replaced? Please help me decide.

My NHS dentist failed to treat my teeth so can i get an implant in NHS as a compensation

Friday, June 19th, 2009
Q.
Hello i wanted to ask you a question regarding an NHS dentist and treatment i recieved and treatment i could have to resolve a problem. I was visiting a dentist for about a year and he failed to treat my teeth in a way to get them to a resonable health. One tooth inperticular was left, he never investiagted the cause of the pain, no x rays were taken and he never drilled in to the tooth or cleaned it and now i will lose the tooth as all he did was paste it with filling material, like i said he never drilled in to it, the filling kept coming off and breaking the tooth even more, the tooth now has absess and has to be extracted as an emergency dentist confirmed and also by a second dentist. I have made a complaint to PCT but still waiting for an outcome, what i would like to know is, 1. What treatment will they provide me with after they have looked inot my complaint to correct it. 2. Could they provide me with an implant on the NHS if they do find i was poorly treated by this dentist as there will be a gap (tooth is at front of mouth on right side) and i feel the tooth could have been saved if he treated it properly, i went to him 5 times with this same probablem and with the pain and when i told him he just said rinse it with mouthwash(no exageration here) So what are my options, can he actually get away with this, also another dentist said i had plaque very deep in my gums that he never treated either in the time i was with him as a patient, i dont think its fair that i have to have a denture or gap or bridge (which would involve disturbing other teeth next to it) when he could have prevented me with losing my tooth, i am very sure of this. So what do you think i can do on this, it is really lowering my self esteem, some advice would be ver appreciated. Thanks

I had brace in 18 now my front teeth have loosened a little bit is dental implants a best option

Friday, June 19th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am 42 years old. I had braches when I was eighteen and now my denitst is telling me that my roots have been shortened because of the braces. My 4 front teeth have loosened a little bit and I would like some advice as to what I need to do. My dentist advised me to go to an orthodonist and have a splint attached to the 4 front teeth. My husband’s dentist advised to have those teeth pulled and get dental implants. What do you think would be the best option? Thank You

My partners bridge came out should something else be used to regain his smile

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009
Q.
Hi My partner lost a tooth (front tooth) as he used to be a kickboxer and the nerve in the tooth got damaged. He has had a plate with a false tooth on it but this didn’t suit him. He recently had a bridge put in but has had it redone within two months of having it done and less than two months later it has come out again. He takes good care of it. When it has come out it looks like it has been bonded with the same thing that is used for fillings. Should something else be used? It seems odd that it has come out so quickly. He had gained confidence and was smiling again with his tooth but now after the second time of it coming out he feels pretty down. Any help or advice would be appreciated – I can send a picture of the false tooth and it’s fixings if you need it. Thanks

I had chemotherapy for non hodgkins lymphoma could drilling in gum be serious problem

Monday, June 15th, 2009
Q.
Is Bicon an inferior material for implants – I have told my dentist that another dentist has given my friend implants at the back of her mouth at a far lower cost than she is quoting. My friend is delighted with the work. However my dentist, feels that Bicon is only suitable for Back teeth. There is a big difference in costs (almost 50%) is it possible for you to advise me as I do not wish to waste my money. I leave in Kent? I have been happy with the work that dentist has done on my teeth over thirty years. I have quite a few crowns and two bridges which support two and three teeth? Seven years ago I had Chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and have been in remission since then. Could the drilling of my gum have any serious problems for me? I do hope you can give me some advice as I do not want to wast my money as I am sixty five years of age and cannot afford to waste my money because it is part of my savings. Sorry this mail is so lengthy.
