If Ive an extraction how long to I have to perform a bridge or implant?

Friday, August 7th, 2009
Q.
Next to the last molar top left of my mouth has had a root canal & crown (lont time ago) with re-treatment of root canal about 5 years ago. After infection and appt was told the root is cracked (11/08). I hesitate extraction and subsequent implant for financial reasons. It has not become re-infected to my knowledge. I have had a headache for 3 weeks. Could the tooth issue cause this? If I have it extracted (partically covered by insurance) how long to I have to perform a bridge or implant? Are their other options? Again cost is a huge factor. Wish it was the back tooth – I’d have it pulled without anything else, however this effects my smile.

My root filled crown is bit loose will i be able to have implants?

Thursday, August 6th, 2009
Q.
My 4 upper front teeth are root-filled & crowned. I have had 2 apicectomies for infection in the gum – the last in December, across all 4 crowns. I have had one incidence of infection since then. One of these teeth has now become loose. What is the likelihood I will be able to have an implant & am I likely to need a bone graft? Thanks

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Moore, I lost about 10 teeth in my upper jaw when I was very young and have been using denture for many years. My dental surgeon informed that a bone grant will be needed for me to have implants to replace the missing teeth. Kindly advise if implants are able to restore the loss of facial height and lip support. Thank you

Is it possible to have dental implants and tooth whitening in NHS?

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Moore, I have had a long standing hisotory of dental work, it seems as though my teeth are just crumbling and needing filling in a different place every time. I have pain, tenderness, and severe discolouring. No gum disease or infection though. I have had a tooth removed which im sure now would have been better with root canal. the problem is, I can’t bite on that side, I have a gold crown above the missing tooth and on the other side a very painful filling that I cant bite on, they are all very sensitive to hot and cold. I asked the dentist what could be done, he said that I could have an implant but i’d have to pay for it. I dont have over a thousand pounds, as he said. Should the dentist have told me about the impact it would have before he removed it? He knew the crown was hard to bite with and the situation in the rest of my mouth. I have a few questions, is an implant on the nhs possible? is it possible to get tooth whitening on the nhs if a previous illness or medication has caused this? Same with braces or something similar as I have teeth out of place and really affects my bite. I’m in my 20’s. Hope that wasnt information overload and thanks a lot in advance for helping. Regards

What is the likelihood of successful implant placement in lower left site?

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009
Q.
It looks like i need to have the lower left second molar extracted due to dental negligence. i’m only 31 and have received compensation from my previous dentist – more than enough to pay for an implant. i’m yet to have an implant consultation – and still have my poor old molar! – but i’m wondering a couple of things: 1. i’ve had infection in that tooth a couple of times now – if for whatever reason i don’t have enough bone for an implant there, can bone grafts be carried out to augment the bone? (i’ve never had gum disease so that wouldn’t be a problem); 2. is it a scary surgery? i’ve hardly ever had any other work done to my teeth (apart from two failed root canals in said lower left second molar!) or any other surgery/illness and am worried; 3. what do you think is the likelihood of successful implant placement in this lower left site? thanks

I dont have enough bone to have dental implant what are my options?

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009
Q.
My dentist has referred me to a surgeon for dental implants. As I have several teeth missing there is not enough bone and this will need to be increased. My dentist has said that this can be done under local anaesthetic with a synthetic material but my consultant wants to remove bone from my hip under a general anaesthetic. The first option is obviously more appealing to me. I would be grateful for your opinion.

Im prescribed with antibiotics before having implants is antibiotics really necessary?

Monday, August 3rd, 2009
Q.
I have booked an appointment to have an implant and my dentist has prescribed Amoxil to be taken before the implant and 200 mgs Metronidazole after the implant. Are these antibiotics really necessary given that I do not currently have an infection? What is the risk of infection if I don’t take the medication?

My permanent canine tooth is firmly embedded in the gums how can i fix it?

Monday, August 3rd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I’m having a cosmetic issue- I still have one of my canine baby teeth which remains fairly strong and hasnt fallen off. It’s presence had prevented the earlier tooth (2nd from the front)from properly aligning into position, hence it remains slightly projected outward at an angle. My dentist says the xray of my gums show that the permanent canine tooth that was supposed to come down is firmly embedded in the gums above and is never going to pose a problem for me. However I’m very unhappy and self conscious of my smile and would like to know what I can do to have that dream smile..
