Can infected implant be treated?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009
Q.
My question is this, I had an inplant put in next to a 3part bridge. Unfortunately it did’t tak. A few months later we tried agasin, and again it didn’t take. As the second implant was being put in, I could feel my brain rattling and that is no exageration. I left the office and my whole right side of my face swelled up, to the point that I stayed in my bedroom for 3-4 days in the dark. I was on antibiotics and pain meds, but nothing helped. My doctor came in on a sun to see me and I didn’t have parmacy coverage so he gave me a left over antibiotic from his sons. Now my bride was damaged and cracked, and I had to have my teeth pulled due to such infection under bridge. Also my implant on left side is abcessed. What should I do?

Could you help as I am unsure of whether to have veneers or bridges?

Q.
I have a partial denture for my upper left and right lateral incisors, but am interested in looking at implants, as this would be a more permanent solution.I admit I have not looked after my teeh very well in the past but I am determined to this time but dont fancy wearing dentures long term – my NHS dentist has mentioned veneers or bridges but not sure about that either. Many thanks.

Is its true that partial acrylic denture not available in nhs?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009
Q.
At the moment I have a 4 tooth bridge which is at the front on my upper teeth. It is a hinge which I have been told is broken so at the moment this is only supported on the one side which is on a post. I have been told by 2 dentists that as this is a large bridge I will now have to have a denture which although not happy have accepted this is the only solution. My problem that before I had my bridge had a plate and as have a strong gag reflex didn’t not get on with this at all also when I was eating it shifted as was most uncomfortable. I have been shown a denture that is metal and doesn’t seem to cover the roof of my mouth would this be a better option than the normal partial acrylic denture for me? I have been told that this is not available on the NHS? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I am a 24 year old type 1 diabetic. As a result I suffer from gum disease, and 1 of my bottom front teeth has fallen out. I receive free NHS medical care and medication and was wondering if an implant is what I need and if it is available for me on NHS?

Q.
Dear Dr Caplan, Could you help…. I had a bad tooth removed by my nhs dentist, the option for me was to have a cap tooth fitted and glued to the tooth next to it,,After fitting th tooth felt too big and I was told this was a normal feeling even though it also loooked too big, after only two weeks the tooth became loose and fell out, so I went to another dentist, the tooth was altered and refitted again by bonding mixture,, I was told again that the tooth would stay in for years.. only a few days later the tooth is again loose and I cannot eat antyhing on that side of my mouth in fear of it falling out again. Could you advise what I should do next Kind regards

What is the price range for implant?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
Dr. Caplan, I saw an endodontist today for a problem with a crown that I had placed in 2004. There was a root canal done on this tooth(which is the 3rd tooth from the front tooth) and then the crown was placed. But I have had a lot of trouble with the crown—has come off several times and now for the second time in 3 mo, I have decay built up under it. I am on antibiotic now and the specialist I saw today recommends that I have this tooth extracted and have an implant for this tooth. It was a baby tooth(the permanent tooth came in behind it and I had it pulled years ago). I have just a couple of questions: What is the price range of an implant? Should I have my dentist—whom I trust do the procedure or is it recommended to go to an oral surgeon? Thank you!

I m not happy with my dental implants can anything else be done?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
I am 21 years old and have a dental implant either side of my upper front teeth. I have had them for three years and am not happy with them. Originally they met my gums far higher than my other teeth which just looked wrong, so they then gave me new ones which had gum colour at the top of the tooth to look more in line. However it still looks pretty awful to me and I was wondering if anything else could be done about it. I think this was all because of lack of bone. Thank you.

I need implants that are strong and stable could you help?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
Q.
I am 51 years of age and had a brace fitted approx 10 years ago. All of my teeth have been pushed in too far, resulting in a narrowing and picked look to my face. The dentist in question has admitted liability to negligence, but mostly to taking too many teeth out. I now have broken teeth and 2 bridges fitted in with super glue and a bad from of gum disease, with likely hood that I will lose most of my teeth. In the last couple of years I have been so embarrassed by my look and the constant failure of the bridges that I have been too ashamed to work. I am desperately looking for cosmetic dentistry that will permanently improve what has happened. I am an athletic type of person so really need implants that are strong and stable and long lasting. I have been to two other dentist pratices for a programme of treatment but both have proved not satisfactory for my long term needs. I am pretty sure I will need bone grafting and would prefer to have as many teeth replaced with implants and not bridges. My bite is also a problem and is causing me problems. I used to have a wide big smile the treatment with the brace has seriously changed my face and aged me quite considerably. I am now single as a result of this, so it has had a very dramatic effect to my life. My solicitor has been hopeless in all of this and is just wanting me to choose any dentist for work, which I am not willing to do, he will also need a programme of cost and upkeep etc. Please can you help.
