Q.
Dear sir is it possible to be asleep before the start of dental treatment,i am an extreem phobic due to many bad experiences in my child hood and teens,i have been unable to see a dentist in over 20 years i have visited over the years all of the dentists in my area but have been unable to stay for the appointment through sheer fear.i have a front tooth missing through an accident at work and various chips and would love to get veneers and get my teeth sorted out as it is so embarrasing, and i am so self concious about smiling, if i could be put to sleep i am sure i could go through with the surgery

Saturday, May 16th, 2009
Q.
I have asthma and I am also diabetic I have several broken teeth which I am concerned about as I work in a public facing job. Several of the teeth would need to be removed. As I gagg when I am at the dentist I have not been for sometime. Would a dentist be prepared to treat me under sedation on the NHS. Some people are saying due to the asthma I may have to be referred to the hospital? Please advise me on this matter as I do not know what to do.

i would like to have my teeth fixed but my fear of dentist is so great please help

Monday, May 4th, 2009
Q.
Please please can you help I have not seen a dentist for over severn years due to my fear. The last time I went to the dentist was Bristol dental hospital where they used general anesthetic. Since moving to swansea in south wales I have been searching high and low for a dentist that gives gas and air as I have had this previously. But I have not found a dentist anywhere that does it now I am getting really down about my teeth as i have a broken half tooth on my lower right side and a crumbling tooth on my lower left side and already have two missing teeth on the lower jaw and one missing on the top I dearly would like to have my teeth fixed as it is really making me miserable but my fear is so great due to an experience i had at a dentist when i was younger which involed them snapping the needle in my mouth that there is no way i will go with out the option of gas and air. Please please help me.

I am very nervous, what are my options to close the gap in my teeth

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hello, I have the first two molars, on lower jaw, taken out by dentist when I was 13yrs of age,(no room for teeth he said) This was very bad experience and ended in hospital. Now unfortunatly I have just found out I have to have 3rd molar taken out, bottom right. I trust my dentist. She has given me choice of ,living with large gap, a denture or inplant. I dont realy want huge gap as allready a bit consoius of exsisting one. But I am very nervous of the surgery required for inplant as well as high cost. Does it hurt as the drilling into jaw sounds quiet bad. I dont want to be given another bad experience. I am 42 and dont want an awful looking mouth

Why can I not have my teeth in the top row removed at one go, and is 2 to 5 weeks good enough gap for IV sedation

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
I have severe bone loss and will need an upper denture. When I smile you wouldn’t really know but over the last 2 years my teeth have stared moving. I have gaps/spaces and some of my teeth have actually dropped down and are loose. I decided to remove my entire top row in 2 steps. When completed i will have upper dentures. My first question is: I will have iv sedation for the first 6 removals and the oral surgeon tells me i need to wait about 2-5 weeks before i do the next step. I didn’t understand why they just can’t pull the whole top row at once and 2nd question: is 2-5 weeks enough time to be sedated again or does it matter, are their any possible complications or having sedation in a short time frame. I have a very low tolerance for pain thats why i elected iv sedation.

I was not sufficiently sedated and was aware of the entire procedure

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Ive just been to the dental hospital as i need to be sedated to get treatment, as i take panic attacks when i enter a dentist. My first visit went great and had one side of my mouth done. Today i went for my 2nd visit to get the other side done, which entailed 3 teeth out and 4 fillings and i had to get stitches also. When they gave me the sedation it never had an affect on me, i was aware of what they where saying and doing, i have a fear of needles and felt the 6 jags i received. In this time i started to panic and kept raising my hand as i could not speak due to my mouth being clamped, they kept telling me to put my hand down it would soon be over, but my heart was racing and i thought i was having a panic attack to continued to keep raising my hand for them to stop as i was not sedated, but they continued and kept putting my hand down. When they took me in the recovery room, i was upset and got straight off the bed as i was fine apart from shocked and scared, the dentist said he gave me the same amount of sedation as my last visit so it should have worked. But i explained why was i in obvious panic and aware of everything being said and going on and kept raising my hand to stop. But he gave no answer. Is this a correct procedure? as im more terrified than ever now and cant describe how horrific that experience was.

I’m 20 years old. I have quite bad teeth as over the previous years i have not looked after them. They are decaying and it brings me to tears almost daily. I have always been afriad of dentists, but now feel cosmetic dentistry is my only option. I wanted to know how much it costs, if i can be put under anesthetic, and just really what my options are as i never feel like smiling.
