Can I Get Braces or Veneers on the NHS?

Tuesday, September 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I am currently on income support, so am unable to afford private dental treatment. I’ve had major mental health problems due to issues I’ve had with my teeth and the way they look. I suffer from depression and major anxiety as a result of the state of my teeth. The way they look is so upsetting to me and it plays on my mind every day, I feel as though I can’t go to social events because people will stare at me. Would I be able to get braces or veneers on the NHS due to the mental health impact on my life? I never go out due to people looking aand judging me based on my teeth. Thank you.

I Have Broken My Tooth And The Edge To It Is Really Sharp. Should I Go To The Hospital Or My Dentist?

Thursday, July 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I need to see a dentist as I have broken a tooth and the sharp edge is cutting into my tongue making it painful whenever I eat. It’s a constant throbbing now and has stopped me from eating. Just sitting here hurts. It feels like a knife. Is it worth going to the hospital for this type of problem? I’m a bit scared of going to the dentist after previous bad experiences. What should I do? I look forward to your reply. Thank you in advance.

I’m experiencing a lot of pain since the extraction of my wisdom tooth, is this normal?

Thursday, July 29th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I had my lower right wisdom tooth extracted in hospital 4 days ago under local. It was very traumatic, and now I am getting a constant throbbing pain all along my jaw line, right up to the socket of my jaw near my ear. I am taking normal paracetemol as well as Ibuprofen but the constant throbbing and aching is starting to take its toll. I’ve done exactly as asked, Corsodyl mouth washes, salt water washes, brushing teeeth after every meal (soup and yoghurt and mashed potato). Is it normal for there to be so much aching and throbbing? My other teeth next to the one which was removed are also feeling “on edge” and sensitive. There is also a foul taste in my mouth despite my regular teeth brushing and mouth washing so am worried I may have dry socket.,

Why do I have to pay my dentist £55 for her referring me to the hospital?

Friday, July 16th, 2010
Q.
My dentist has told me i need to have my wisdom tooth removed. Due to it not being able to fit in my mouth and only partially exposed this has to be done at hospital. My dentist told me i will have to pay her £55 to write a referral to the hospital, and that the hospital may or may not decide to remove it (depending on how much pain i am in because of it). Why do i have to pay £55 to my dentist, even if the hospital chose not to remove it?,

Q.
Hello Doctor, I am about to begin my orthodentic treatment (Invisalign), and before starting, I want to have my wisdom teeth removed. I have one problem, and it is that I’m very very nervous and scared about having it done under local anaesthetic. I want to have it done under general anaesthetic. What do you reckon? Many thanks.
