Q.
I had a scale and polish a few days ago and had some plaque removed. Now I can feel a gap between my teeth and my gums where the plaque was. Will this gap go or will I always have it from now on? Thanks

My teeth are going brown around the gums and quite a few of them have massive hole advice?

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009
Q.
After years of not looking after my teeth, smoking and drinking far too much coca cola my teeth are a state. There going brown around the gums and quite a few of my back teeth have massive holes in them. It doesn’t help that I’m terrified of dentists. Im only 19 and I’m so paranoid about them i even try my best to talk without showing my teeth. Im worried a cosmestic dentist would judge me because of this. I’m also terrified about going and the cost although I’m willing to put up with the pain and price to get my confidence back. It’s hard to concentrate on looking after then when there in such bad condition already.

My 6 yr old daughter has a swollen gums due to silver caps on them can anything be done?

Monday, June 29th, 2009
Q.
My 6 year old daughter with special needs was put under for dental treatment. She came out of surgery with her 4 front teeth (2 top and 2 bottom) pulled and all her other teeth had silver caps on them. Her gums have been swollen since. The dentist told me brushing them will help correct the swelling??? Months later, still swollen and she seems in pain. She screams when I brush. Again, dentist said to come back in 6 months. Finally able to find new dentist who told me the caps are too big for her teeth and have caused gingervitis. Her gums look raw and because she is adopted and on medicaid, I feel like I can not get decent help for her. The new dentist claims there is nothing that can be done since the caps are permanant. Isn’t there something I can do for this poor child. She has special needs so I must brush for her and she can’t communicate if she is in pain but her screaming tells me she is. She is constantly poking at her mouth and rubbing her face so I know it bothers her. A year has already gone by from surgery and gums still swollen. I have seen 3 dentists now and no one seems to think they can do anything? Is it because of her insurance?? Or is there no hope for her situation and do we need to just wait for her baby teeth to fall out? I feel so sorry for her and do not want her uncomfortable any longer.

I have had a soregum behind my front tooth on the gum line could the tooth need root canal

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Q.
I hope that you can help. For the past week I have had a very soregum behind my front tooth not on the gumline but further down on or under the tooth dump. It is only sore behind the one tooth, and is very painful even if just touched by my tongue and the gum pulses after touching. The tooth feels great above the gum line no sensitivity and pain feels like it pulses through it just the gum. I have has a swollen glands for the last 3 days and dentist said that this was the reason and that it will clear up naturally. I had xrays and they have come back all clear. Why would only one tooth be affected by this as gums next to the tooth don’t hurt one bit? and is their anything I do to help the situation out. ie medicated mouthwash etc Please help even eating is very difficult now. Could the tooth need root canal or extraction without proof on xray”

I have bleeding in my gums and have got worse can i have gum grafting in NHS

Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Q.
After having braces about 5 years ago I noticed when they were took off slight gum recession on my front lower two teeth. This has got progressively worse, I am now 20 and my front two teeth have very little gum left and bleed when I touch them, they are slightly wobbly. I keep going back to my dentist who has told me different things every time, last time I went he told me there was still gingivitis in my gums but that my gums had grown back, when in actual fact my gums have got a lot worse. I am brushing twice daily with an electric toothbrush, brushing upwards on my gums, flossing, and I have gengigel which I apply before going to bed. I have recently started using cordosyl mouthwash. I realise I need to go back to the dentist but I am not confident at all in his abilities anymore. What is the best course of action for my gums and is it possible to save my teeth as they are only very slightly wobbly. I have heard of gum grafts, could this be an option, and also is there anything else you think I should do to help my gums and teeth? I realise I will have to pay for gum grafts, can I get this on the Nhs or will I have to go private and could you tell me an estimation of the cost. I am 20 and in full time education (college) but receive no benefits. Thanks in advance,
