My canine was removed in childhood can i get it restored now?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Q.
As a child my dentist removed a single canine tooth. As a result the centre line of my top teeth is about 3-4mm off centre from my lips, resulting in one-sided appearance. Is it possible to restore the centre line using crowns or implants? Many thanks

Im 33 and have gappy teeth would u suggest dentures or crowns?

Friday, September 11th, 2009
Q.
Hi, i am a 33 year old male with very gappy front teeth. Not just the front two, but most of the upper teeth have gaps which obviously affects my confidence. Having consulted my dentist and had my teeth impressions sent to the lab, was told 4 to 7 crowns would be the best option and due to my age, a partial denture would not be recommendable. The cost involved was quite daunting however, i acknowledge that a smile for life is priceless. Do you agree that at my age this would be the best course of action to take, and a partial dentutre should be avoided. Many thanks.

Friday, September 11th, 2009
Q.
Hi Since being a child I have had an overcrowded mouth. When I was younger I had a retainer brace for my front teeth which stuck out and were moved reletavly back into position. As I have got older my teeth have misalinged and I am very self consious about how they look. Is there any provision through the nhs to have get these fixed by way of braces. Thanks

I had braces and my teeth straightened but gaps have developed again?

Friday, September 11th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Julian Caplan, Im thinking about having my teeth sorted out. I sucked my thumb from when i was two, ive only recently stopped now in 19! I had braces, and my teeth went straight again, but they still wernt very noticable, as my front teeth have been pushed up. Since i’ve had my brace off, my teeth have started to move, and another gap has formed when i close my mouth. What could i have done to them to sort them out? and how much would it cost? thanks.

Im 23 and am embarrassed with my teeth what can i do?

Friday, September 11th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Moore Im 23 and am extremely embarrased at the state of my teeth. Toward the back I have lost two on the upper jaw, and have lost part of three teeth on the bottom jaw – presumably from caries. There are also small holes in two of my front teeth near the gumline I feel very nervous at the propect of going to see the dentist because I have neglected my oral healthcare, although I do brush regularly now – I was never really promted to during my childhood. I dont where possible want to have any, or many teeth extracted as I dont discuss my oral health with my partner – again, too embarrased as her teeth are great – she is registered with an NHS dentist wheras I am not and have been reluctant to do so because i feel the way i do. What other options are there to retain as many of my current teeth? i understand without an examination its difficult to say, but from a worst case scenario.. I especially do not want to have to wear dentures, so other options would be essential for this. I have done a bit of research into some of the options, but I thought i would pluck up the courage and speak to someone about it. Many thanks,

Are veneers the quick fix to close gaps?

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009
Q.
Below is the Q&A from yesterday. I wondered whether you could clarify things for me. You said veneers are the quick fix, does that mean that you would always expect to close all gaps and never use veneers or does the bite determine this? I am aware I would need a retainer for a couple of years but what I don’t want is for my teeth to move to fill the gaps. Is it possible to use something behind the veneers to fill the gap to prevent the movement? Q. I am 41 and have had fixed braces for nearly 2 years after having had 4 teeth removed. My lower jaw is fine but I have been told that I will be left with gaps on my upper jaw behind my canines due to the size and shape of my teeth. Is this normal? It has been suggested that I now have 4 veneers to hide the gaps, is there any other alternative? Will the veneers stop my teeth from moving? A. The veneers would be a quick way of reducing the size of the gaps instead of the brace which can often take 1-2 years to close the gaps sufficiently. They don’t stop the teeth moving so a new retainer would be needed after they are fitted

I had braces years back and now crooked should i get braces fixed again?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Andrew Moore My teeth started to move only a few months after i had finished six months of wearing a removable brace and before this a fixed brace and night brace during a year and a half. This was when i was about ten , i am 38 now,my front teeth are quite big compared to what my baby teeth were like and so i have always had a problem with over crowding. As my teeth are quite crooked at the front, they over lap, do you think i would benifit from having a removable or fixed brace again could it help to straighten my front teeth or would my teeth end up crooked again. My bottom teeth are also crooked but i did not have a brace as i was told at the time that my teeth would eventualy straighten out but this did not happen. Thank you for your time and help

Im 54 and i have receding gums what can i do?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi, i have always looked after my teeth and they are still in good condition. however, i have now got receding gums at the back of my lower teeth. this has affected 2 teeth each side. next to these teeth i have a missing tooth each side. removed when i was a child. i am 54 now. i have been told by dentists over the years that i am brushing my teeth too hard. can i have crowns fitted over the teeth that have the receding gums and can i have implants to fill the gaps between the teeth, thus protecting my gums from further damage from brushing.
