My molar teeth filled with amalgum is slightly loose do i need a crown or do it need a root canal

Sunday, June 21st, 2009
Q.
I have a molar which had been filled with amalgum about 8 years ago in a cross shape. Recently two p[ieces of the tooth around the edge have broken off leaving the filling and the front part of the tooth. The filling is slightly loose. There is no pain in the tooth atall. Do you think this would need crowning or can it just be built up and smoothed off with white stuff. And if a crown in required would it need a post, as its a molar. Also what is the criteria for doing a root canal, was wondering if this would be necessary aswell. Thanks

I have a dark grey line along the base of my bottom molar teeth what could this be?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Q.
I have a couple of problems I’d like advice on. Firstly, I have just noticed a dark grey line along the base of one of my bottom molar teeth… the rest of the tooth looks healthy and the gum doesn’t hurt… what could this be? Secondly, I had some fillings along the top of my 2 front teeth, but the dentist smeared it all over the teeth, which have now stained darker than the rest of my teeth. Is it possible to have these removed? I am considering teeth whitening- specifically ‘enlighten’ as all my teeth are quite stained and I’m only 22 but I’m just wondering if this causes long term damage to the enamel, and how long lasting the effect actually is?

I just had a temporary filling and said to come back after 2 months does the TF last for 2 months

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I recently had a filling done which was very painful so the dentist replaced with a temporary filling/dressing to aid healing and said to go back for a replacement filling in 2 months. This seems like a very long time (and in that time I’ll be going abroad). Im really concerned that the TF may not be designed to last that long and something may go wrong, especially when Im abroad. Can you advise? Many thanks.

Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Q.
I had root canal done 2 years ago and have noticed that the filling used turned the tooth a shade of gray. Is it possible to refill with a white composite that is will make the chewing surface white and smoother. Thanks

I had a sharp shooting pain in a molar with some sensitivity what would be the reason

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009
Q.
Hi I would really appreciate your help. This afternoon I was having a cold drink when I experienced a sharp shooting pain in a molar I had filled a few months ago. I also experienced some sensitivity in another filled molar but not to the same extent. All this was accompained by a general ache in my teeth. This morning I had no pain and drank cold drinks with no problem, do you have any idea why the pain suddenly came on just a few hours later? I chewed a lot of gum today which I haven’t done for a year or so. Could I have chipped the filling? I checked in the mirror and there doesn’t appear to be any holes but maybe I missed them? I don’t really have the time or money to go to the dentist this week but I am desperate to sort this problem as it is my birthday this weekend. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you

I had RCT on my molar tooth now half section of the filling came off what would be the options

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, 2 months ago i had a root canal treatment. The tooth, molar (front) was also in decay. A large filling in the centre of the tooth was put in place after the RCT. Yesterday, whilst eating, a half section of the filling came off and one side of the tooth(outside) where the RCT was done felt wobbly. Today it is more wobbly. The Inner side also feels wobbly. The RCT treatment cost nearly £300. I guess the next option is either take it out completly or fit a crown. More expense I cannot afford. what would you recommend
