Im 19 and my teeth are discolored and has fillings of my back teeth I live in london pls advice

Q.
Hi Andrew, I am a 19 year old ex-bulimia sufferer. I had the disorder for about 3 years up until roughly six months ago. I know have very discoloured teeth, fillings in most of my back teeth, and visible cavities forming in the ones which do not have fillings yet. I did not discuss my disorder with my dentist as I felt too ashamed, however he did prescribe me a high fluoride toothpaste. As I have more cavities forming, I dont feel that the toothpaste is successful enough. I rarely want to or have reason to smile anymore and am so scared that my teeth are rotting. Also, my dentist has now left the practice I attend so each time I return to the surgery I am seen by a different temporary dentist. I know I need to find a new dentist who I can discuss my disorder with (although I am no longer bulimic) and hopefully find out what can be done to improve my teeth. I live in london – could you advise me on how to find a suitable dentist who deals with people like me? Thankyou for your time

Ive heard that there are possible risks of dangerous chemicals leaching from sealants advice

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan, I have read on your site the page about dental sealants. I have heard that there are possible risks of dangerous chemicals leaching form sealants, notably bisphenol A. My daughter had some sealants put in a year or so ago and I was not informed of any health risks. What would you suggest I do? Are there a range of possible sealants available with some deemed safer than others? In which case, should I ask the dentist which was used on her and perhaps get them redone if it was not a safe sealant? Many thanks

Im extremely nervous patient and i need several filling what is the cost of inlay and onlays?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Tennet, I am an extremely nervous patient and hence now require several fillings due to decay. Some of these fillings are apparently quite large and the dentist seems unsure if they require root canal work or not. I have since come across inlays and onlays are these available on the NHS or purley private? and if so either way what is the approximate costing? also I appreciate without seeing my teeth its difficult to judge but may they be a better option to fillings and would they last longer. My last root canal was very painful during and after. Best wishes

I had white filling in 5 teeth and now 4 are in pain. does it mean my dentist cant do white fillings

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
I had white fillings in 5 teeth recently (the first ones I have ever had done ie first time I went to a dentist). They were all molars, and were done in 3 seperate sessions. One was broken off, so the filling is close to a nerve and a liner was put in. All the teeth hurt after the fillings, and now, 3 months after the first 2 fillings, and a few weeks after the the last 4 out of the 5 teeth are hurting after cold or hot food/drinks, and also sometimes without any obvious reason. I only had some pain in ONE out of the 5 teeth before, now pain in 4! When I told my dentist he said the fillings will need to be replaced, and if that does not solve it they need a root canal! It just seems mad to possibly end up with a root canal on 3 teeth that never caused me a problem before I went to a dentist. Actually this has put me off ever going again. Does it mean my dentist can’t do white fillings very well, and if so would it be any use to have them redone by the same person? Would I have to pay again? And how long should I wait to see if the pain still settles by itself? Would it be any use to not eat any hot or cold things, ie could that help the teeth to settle, or will it make no difference..? Thanks

My teeth doesnt look good as my dentist has splint my loose tooth to my other lower teeth advice

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
Q.
I had a very loose tooth in my lower jaw and went to my local dentist. He said he could splint my loose tooth to my other lower teeth with a fixidant by filling all six teeth at the back. He has done this but it is very bulky at the back of my teeth and they look unnatural at the front, ie, they don’t look like individual teeth anymore as the filling joins them altogether. What can be done to sort out this problem.

I had a deep silver filling replaced with a white filling and since then my teeth is sensitive advice

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
Q.
A while ago i had a deep silver filling replaced with a white filling, in the molar tooth, sice then i get pain of a sesitive nature when i try to chew food, i have been back to my dentist who adjusted the bite and took an exray, there was no evidence of a crack or hole in the tooth, the tooth was not dead. so my dentist is going to deep clean the gum next week, as he said there is sensitivity due to pockets, and when the gum has been deep cleaned the paiun should go. is this correct?

Half of my new amalgam filling has fallen out and my teeth are sensitive what is wrong in my teeth

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
Q.
I have had the same amalgam fillings for 35 years and I never had any trouble with them. Last week my new dentist told me I had a small cavity on the side of one of my teeth and suggested that since I was already going to be numb from the novacane, that I could replace the silver filling with a clear one. Once I was numb he asked if I wanted the tooth next to it replace as well. He replaced that amalgam filling too. The next morning half of the new filling fell out. I called the doc and he didn’t believe me, said he’s never heard of such a thing. Went in the next day and half the filling was gone as I told him. He drilled the entire “new” filling out and replaced it again. Now my tooth is extremely sensitive and throbs. I NEVER had problems with this tooth prior, none. I wish I had not given him permission to replace a perfectly good tooth. Why do you think half my filling fell out and will I always have this pain? Thank you.
