Do you think there will be natural alternatives used in dentistry?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr. Moore, Considering all the advancements in dentistry/science around enamel regeration (http://www.rsc.org/Publishing/ChemScience/Volume/2009/10/Enamel_regeneration.asp) do you envision more natural alternatives which could be used to replace veneers and crowns in the future? Years ago I had a veneer placed on a front chipped tooth. I regret the decision, but at the time it provided an asthetic alternative to bonding which I was told would stain over time. Holding out hope of one day obtaining the physiological benefits of a more natural tooth structure. Thanks for your time and insight. Cheers.,

What can replace unnatural feeling veneer?

Friday, January 15th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr Caplan, Years ago I had a porcelean veneer put on my front tooth replacing bonding material originally used to fix the the results of a biking accident. Initially the veneer provided asthetic benefits of not staining and restoring stucture, however I think it was too agressive a treatment. Cosmetic Dentistry has come a long way since then and I’m wondering if there are alternatives such as composite bonding which would allow me to remove the veneer which feels unnatural. I have larger front teeth but wanted to shorten/shape them anyway. Most of my original tooth structure is still in place and I’m wondering what options are available to me. Also, I’d appreciate your thoughts on holding out for the possibility of one day resoring the tooth using enamel regeneration which apparently is becoming more of a reality: http://www.rsc.org/Publishing/ChemScience/Volume/2009/10/Enamel_regeneration.asp Thanks for your time and insight. Cheers. -,

I feel I am stuck with unprogressive dental treatment.

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Q.
Hi. I have recently broken some enamel from the back of one of my front lower teeth. I have now visited mt dentist 5 times and am back to square one. First he did a filling on the back, and the day after I had to go back as there was a very sharp edge. 1 week later im back again as it had come off. I saw a different dentist at the practice as my own was busy, who replaced the filling . 2 days later, it came away yet again. I then go back for the 4th time and the dentist decided to put a sealant on the tooth to stop the sensitivity as obviously a filling it was not working. A couple of days later, this too came off. Back I go for the 5th time. Now, the dentist did explain that these were awkward to do at the very begining, but im now back to the start postion again, with the dentist saying there is nothing more he can do, so just smoothed it down as best he could. But it still drives me crazy as my tongue keeps catching it and there is some slight sensitivity. And of course ive wasted £65. The dentists are all English, and it is an NHS dentist. And they are all extremely nice people too !!! Should I try a private dentist ? Or am i stuck with it forever ? help !

What are pros and cons of teeth filling?

Friday, October 30th, 2009
Q.
I had braces when I was 17. At the time there was an issue with overcrowding on the bottom teeth. There was discussion of pulling a tooth, but it was not done. I’m now 33 and have overcrowding of my lower front 6 teeth. My orthodontist suggested pulling a tooth or filing the teeth down. What are the pros and cons of filing the teeth down? Does this ruin your tooth enamel?

My enamel is disintegrating on my incisors could you advice

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr. Solanki, Having always looked after my teeth, I am very dissapointed to see that the enamel is visibly disintergrating on my inscisors. Twenty years ago the same problem occured and I was given crowns on my two front teeth, which I know feel look too large for my mouth. I am unsure what to do. I have a problem visiting the dentist (though I always do),having had a few unhappy experiences. I would be very grateful for your advice
