My Teeth Are Decayed Due To Acid Reflux, Can I Get Them Crowned On The NHS?

Wednesday, July 17th, 2013
Q.

I have been to the dentist today and my teeth have severe decay through acid reflux, which I have been having treatment for over the last 2 years or more at my local hospital needing several operations to stretch the oesophagus to prevent me bringing food and liquid back up from continuously . The dentist said the cost will be over £6000 to have them crowned, as this comes under cosmetic treatment, is this correct? the other option he gave me was to have my teeth out and he would fit dentures on the NHS, something I really could not have in my mouth, can you offer any advice please, is it possible to have crowns or caps on the NHS due to other medical conditions? Kindest regards

My Dentures Are Awful, What Advice Do You Have?

Friday, May 17th, 2013
Q.

I had to get top and bottom plates one year ago. I take bad with how false and ugly they are. I cannot bite into anything and have to cut everything up, even toast. I have lost loads of weight because of this. I cannot open my mouth to take a mouthful off a fork as my teeth fall down. They look like teeth shaped out of plastic, are all blended together and not one individual tooth. If I eat any thing even a biscuit my teeth are a mess with bits of food. I cannot eat in front of anybody because of this, therefore can never go out for a meal. I had bad teeth and made a desperate decision to get false sets. I am devastated and would be glad of any advice
Regards.

My veneer needs replacing but I am not happy with the colour my new dentist has provided, what can I do?

Q.

Hi,
I recently cracked a veneer on a front incisor and went to my dentist for a replacement.
I have moved house since the original veneer was fitted and can no longer go to the same dentist.
My new dentist took impressions, colour matches etc and gave me a temporary veneer. I paid for half the cost after the first appointment.

Today I went back to have the proper veneer fitted and it was far too white/cream in colour. The dentist seemed a bit at a loss and said he would have to ask them to re-do it. When placed next to my other tooth, the veneer also looked far too thick and opaque – nothing like the veneer that I had lost. My original veneer was exactly the right colour and much more translucent.

I am now worried that the next effort won’t be good enough! The dentist said the lab may be able to colour the veneer or they may have to make another. I’ve lost a bit of confidence and I would like to know what my options are.

With thanks
