Any other treatment then dentures for roof of mouth

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009
Q.
I have never had good teeth and now have no top teeth left.I’am 35 now but have always had a fear of the dentist. I hate having dentures as they have taken away any confidence i used to have.Every time i go to the dentist i always seem to come away with dentures that have teeth that are bigger than which was on my old plate. I have been wearing the same plate for years which has no gum above the teeth and find that i cannot wear the full set of dentures they try to give me as they feel awkward and make me gag. Can you advise me if i have any other available options rather than dentures. i would love to have the roof of my mouth back again rather than a plastic one but understand this may not be optimistic. with thanks.

My top front right teeth is less than 1mm what are my options?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
Q.
Hello, As a young boy and teen i didn’t really look after my teeth well or had the money to help sort my problems, but now i’m 22 and i have no confidence and i feel bad i’m quite popular person and with the ladys but my teeth makes me feel bad and makes my life hell my top front right teeth is basically gone there is less then 1mm of it left same with the one on thr right next to it, my left front teeth is showing standing firm the one tooth on the left of it is chipped… Other then that all my teeth on the sides bottom and top are fine shape and size just dis-colored my top front teeth has always been crooked and same with my bottom front teeth. But as i’m scared to death of the dentist and won’t take injections is there anyway i can cover these teeth as i’m too scared to have them taken out! Like false clip on teeth or something? is there anything like that avalible and if so what would the cost be seeing i’m unemployed too so my budget would be slim i know it would be best to have them taken out. But i just want something to fix my smile and make me confident and make my life alot easier and not always depressed about them! Thanks

I have a four tooth bridge the first crown is the eye tooth and the 2nd is the last tooth in my right upper jaw. The post snapped on the 1st crown and the dentist has said that I must have implants as the crowns cant support the bridge and the roots are too soft for single crowns with a two tooth denture in between.Do I have any alternative than having the roots removed and a denture until I can affiord the implants. Last week I got my teeth removed and dentures fitted but still the pain exists advice?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
Dear dr Glaister , I`m really hoping you can help me. I recently had my teeth removed ,and dentures fitted (straight away).I`m petrified of dentists ,and they were made aware of this…hence i was supposed to get both local injections ,and councious sedative? NEITHER worked ,and i sobbed while they yanked and pulled at my teeth..I can recall everything. I also don`t think they put in the right dentures ,as these are not the white ,nice ones i chose ,and was shown by my own dentist. My real problem now ,is after a week ,these throb ,ache ,and i`m bleeding from my gums/mouth still…..also i`m not happy with my so=called new smile?? And could i possibly have an infection? The entire process took less than 9/10 mins ,and i`m still in alot of pain. ANy help would be gratefully appreciated..many thanks

Did my dentist have the right to extract my teeth without giving me the right options?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I wonder if you could give me some advise please.I had a bridge that had bercome loose, when i visited my dentist he said that i could not have it re-cemented as the two teeth anchoring the bridge had worn away and the only solution was to extract the two teeth and then he would replace with a new bridge. I went ahead and had the teeth surgically removed. when i returned for him to check the stitches he informed me that i could not have a bridge as the gap was too large and the only option was to have dentures or costly implants. I now have nasty plastic dentures that are very uncomfortable i have a constant lisp and find them very diffiucult to eat with. Did he have the right to extract my teeth without giving me options? the extractd teeth were fine, i had no decay, they had just worn down to the gum so the bridge could not adhere. After some research i found out that i could have had them posted and crowned. he did not give me that option. On my return visits he keeps trying to convince me to have implants, i cannot afford to go dow that route (£6000) I feel he is purely profiteering.|I am so upset as they are my near front teeth and used to have a perfect smile. I am devastated and constantly have to cover my mouth if i laugh or smile. do i complain to him? do i have any rights? can you confirm that i could have had crowns? please can you advise. Thankyou.

What are the options to fill teeth gap and how much do they cost?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hi Justin I have just had emergency nhs dental treatment after breaking my insisor tooth which had to be extracted. The site was immediately alongside a previous extraction of an insisor near to the front right side of my mouth. I now have a sizeable gap which is seriously affecting my confidence as I now feel unable to smile properly and am having considerable trouble speaking properly as my tongue is protruding through the gap when i speak causing to lisp. I am on the nhs waiting list but don’t feel that i can wait forever to get this problem sorted. Please can you tell what my options are and approximate costs of getting the gap closed at a private dentist. I live in Pembrokeshire but would be prepared to travel if necessary. Thank you very much
