Are flexible dentures a possibility if you have gum disease?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
I have a partial upper denture that contains 4 teeth. The teeth were lost due to gum disease. I would like a flixible denture but have been given conflicting info from dentists. I am trying to establish if a flexible denture is a good choice when gum disease is involved, can you help please.,

Will the NHS provide bridges and implants?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
I have recently been involved in a serious car accident (6 days ago) i lost both front teeth and my middle bottom and fractured a top incisor. i was taken to hospital with two of my teeth and was told they could be implanted within 4 hours, the hospital failed to even examine my teeth and in the end decided just to treat my broken forearm and to leave my teeth until 2 days later. By the time this decision was made they had missed the 4hour window. I had my fractured tooth removed and am waiting for an appointment to take out the root. I have been informed the nhs do not perform implants but i am a student aged just 22 who cannot afford £2,000 per tooth when surely it was not my fault they had not tried to implant my real teeth. I’m at a real loss here, im extremely down, refuse to go out in public and am struggling to eat. Do the nhs provide bridges? would that be applicable to me? the bottom tooth i have been told can be fixed by wearing a bottom brace to close the gap.i have yet to see my dentist, this will be next week. I’m just after some advice please as I’m so worried i will have dentures at the age of 22 or that it will not be sorted out appropriatley. regards,

Having initially been told I wouldn’t need to have two ‘exposures’, I am now being advised differently, any advice?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
In a weeks time I am having the first stage of two implants being put in, on my top jaw near the front, after two extractions and a bone graft last june. I will have a bridge as well as I now have three spaces. When I was given a quote in June, the dentist said it was very unlikely I would need to have two ‘exposures’ but now he says I do have to, costing an additional £165 each, or otherwise I can not wear my denture for the next six months. I simply could not understand his explanation. Could you please explain? Thank you.,

I am anxious about the idea of taking bone from another part of my body for a bone graft. What are my other options?

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Solanki I currently wear dentures but for the last few years have been finding them very uncomfortable and painful and often eat on one side. For some time I have been contemplating dental implants but have discovered from another dentist that my gums are currently too thin to support this and a bone graft would be a certainty if I went ahead. Apparently a bone graft can come from the shin bone but in recent years am finding that my body takes some time to heal and am anxious at the thought of using my own bone for the bone graft and for the medium term at least will probably be doing my body and mobility more harm than good. What other options do I have? Kind regards,

Can you immediately put in mini implants after tooth extraction?

Thursday, November 4th, 2010
Q.
Hi I would like to know if you can put mini implants in at the same time you make an extraction? Also instead of using the mini implant to hold dentures in place, would it be possible to put crowns (one single tooth on each implant) for like six in a row and if it is possible how much cheaper would it cost than regular implants. Thanks,
