Can u advice me about teeth fillings and mouth shields

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan I am 56 years old I have regular dental treatments. My latest dentist who I have been seeing for about 3 years now isn very good, he comented on the fact that my lower jaw sticks out more than my upper jaw and asked if anyone ever mentioned treatment for this, I said no and was not awere that I could have or had treatment, although of course i have always been aware of the problem. he sent me to a dental hospital as my teeth are also chipped and said this is because I grind my teeth at night and they may fit me with a dental shield to wear at night. The speciaist I was to see was not there that day so I see someone else, she seemed to ask me odd questions one being did the teeth alignment bother me I said not really as to be honest I am 56 years old I have lived with it this long. She said I needed fillings to repair he chips and a shield to wear at night and my dentist would do it. i have an appoinment soon, is this the best thing, do you think will it look odd, I do not fancy a tooth shield.I am a national health patient and do not pay anything for my dental treatments as I am a carer for my husband. If I was a private patient what would you suggest I have done? thank you for your time.

I had lumineers done 4 years ago on 10 top teeth to cover a large gap….i hate them..they look crooked, huge and bulky…i don’t take pictures anymore, …i am so depressed and don’t know what to do..is the doctor obligated to appease the situation? maybe by doing them over? even though some years have passed?

What kind of treatment is advicable to ingrown teeth?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hello i’m 17 years old and have two ingrown top teeth of my top four. I was wondering if veneers would be a possibility on the nhs or if you think i would be aligiable for veneers because the teeth are queit far back and veneers would have to stick onto the actual teeth? If not what dental alighning method would you suggest to strighten my teeth? would a normal nhs brace strighten my teeth? though i would much rather cover my teeth instead as alighning my teeth on the nhs will be lenghly. thankyou.

Are veneers or braces better for crooked teeth?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi there The 2 teeth next to my front teeth are crooked (they protrude forwards) Would i be better to go for a brace or have a veneer? I’ve heard that braces work but the results are not permanent..so this puts me off. Are veneers more permanent?

can u suggest an alternative for night guard?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi,I have recently been told by my dentist that the damage to my teeth is caused by grinding during the night. This is evident as i have very bad wear on my two front teeth. They are a lot shorter than my other top teeth and have formed an arch shape. It has got to the stage where people are noticing and i am reluctant to smile.I have been given a night guard to wear but i feel my teeth need to be treated with caps or veneers as well as the further protection that the guard will give, what do you recommend?

Can u gimme some advice on veneer replacements?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Caplan Just to say thanks very much for kindly replying to my question about my worries about possibly unsecure veneers, and putting my mind at ease. Could I just ask you for your expertise on this q, as these veneers I am referring to are uneven, my dentist has offered to replace one of the central ones for me in order to make it match the other side (as it was in temps!) to make things look more even and symmetrical. In your experience, is replacing one central veneer ok in terms of aesthetics or is it a bit too risky in terms of an exact colour match etc? Im wondering if I would be best perhaps asking for the central 2 to be replaced together.. just want to get the right treatment. Thanks so much
