How do I choose the right dentist for discoloured teeth?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am 21 years old and have severely discoloured teeth from taking strong medications over the last 10 years. I had previously considered tooth whitening but because I have numerous fillings in the front of my teeth this wouldn’t work. I am therefore considering veneers, particularly lumineers as I have very sensitive teeth. Do lumineers have a shorter life than porcelain veneers? How do you work around veneers if at a later date fillings need to be carried out? Obviously there are so many cosmetic denists around, how do I go about chosing the right dentist for the job? Many thanks,

What treatment is there for uneven teeth?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hi, My front two upper teeth are not symmetrical as one in shorter than the other. The reason for this is as when i was younger the left one got chipped whihc was privately fixed in my teens. I think the dentist did bonding as it was a very small minor chip. This has left me with my left tooth being perfect but my right being slightly shorter and not straight. What are my options and can i get an approximate cost for the treatment? I was looking at veneers but i think that may be a little too much, or may be not…,

What is a cheap option to replace discoloured and damaged teeth?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Dr Caplan, I need help urgently. My teeth are so bad that i do not feel comfortable talking to people anymore. ever since I got my adult teeth, they have been very yellow. My milk teeth were naturaly white, straight and healthy. I have had fixed braces and my teeth are now straight, but the colour does not imporve. I am no longer happy with myself, I need to do something about them but I am lost about what. One tooth has chipped away and therfore become very brownish. I know I can have vaneers done, but my dentist told me they would cost £250 per tooth, but i need all the front ones doing, a total of 15-16 teeth. I can not afford to pay that much per tooth. Dental implants sound complicated, I do not know if i can get them or how much they would cost. I need a cost effective way and fast. I can not ignore it any longer. Please help :(,

Can I have single veneer to fis fractured tooth?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Dr. Tennet, I have a fractured upper central incisor that runs horizontal across the tooth and has not separated. I have seen two dentists so far and one wants to place a porcelain veneer on only that tooth while the other wants to put bonding on the fracture line if I cannot afford to have veneers on both central incisors. Is it advisable to put on a single veneer to just fix the fractured tooth? Thanks for your advice,

I cant have braces as my roots are too small what are the alternatives?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I am interested in finding out how i can get teeth straightening done, when i was in high school i was told i cannot have braces as my roots are too small, i am 27 years old now and would really like to know what alternatives there are for me, i have been researching on dentist treatments abroad as they appear to be more cost effective, I also have a problem with my gums, they were different shapes and sized before, I have visited my local dentist about this and the gums have been controlled but the difference in their size remains. If i am honest i am not keen on veneers but perhaps other methods that do not take so long. I am planning on getting married mid 2010 and i hate my smile, i really want some advice on sorting out my gums and teeth sooner rather then later. I hope you can help. Thank you

Why is that my crowns and veneers are not whiter anymore?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009
Q.
PORCELAIN TEETH CHANGING COLOR I had a full restoration in 2000-01 using empress crowns and veneers on the front lower teeth. The crown and veneer color were the second whitest you could get. I wanted the whitest but my dentist talked me out of it. My teeth looked fantastic for several years but now have turned off white. I was told that the porcelain would never change color…that is why I got the work done. My smile was very white for the first 5 years but has now changed to off-white..not very pretty. I have my teeth cleaned every 3 months and brush and floss 3 times a day. What is going on? I have pictures I can send. I am so upset because I wanted a really white smile and paid $30,000 to get one.
