What treatment is there for protruding tooth?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr. Tennet!! I desperately need your help! My question concerns one of my upper canine teeth. This tooth didn’t come in until I was about 16 and slowly grew. I am nearly 19 now, and I think it has pretty much halted growth; however, it sits higher in my jaw when compared to all my other teeth, giving it a ‘shorter’ appearance. I definitely don’t want braces. Can you suggest something for me? Thank you so much in advance and I really look forward to hearing from you!!

See NHS dentist following veneers

I have procelain veneers, fitted at a private cosmetic dental surgery. Can I go for check-ups, as usual, at my normal NHS dentist even though I’ve had this work done privately? Thanks,

Teeth receding into gum

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Glaister – due to childhood neglect and a terrible fear of dentist -i did not visit a dentist (apart from tooth removal) until i was 33. My dentist at that time said my oral hygeine had obviously been excellent, all i needed was 2 fillings. I have continued to visit my dentist regularly and now at the age of 52 – my teeth are “not nice” at the bottom – a small gap is now widening and i cannot align my teeth to smile. I am sure one of my front teeth has “disappeared a bit” into my upper gum!! I don’t have a full set of teeth – probably about 24. What would you suggest to make me “smile” and to save me having sunken gums etc in years to come? I’m terrified of having to have dentures – i want to salvage what i have left. Thank you,

Options to replace moulded teeth?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr. Glaister. When I was younger i fell over and chipped my right front tooth, this was about 10 years ago and I am 18 going on 19 now. I went to a local NHS dentish and they remoulded the tooth, however they did a terrible job. The tooth isn’t as long as the real one to eht left, it’s thicker in the front and back, and the discolouring in it is so obvious even from a distance, it really makes me concious about my smile. I was wondering what could be done about it, and how much that would cost. Thank you so much,

Im about to turn 20 and have had a rough time lately, one of my front teeth is partially dead and i will need a veneer. Have dental veneers darkened over time?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
I had a complete restoration, Empress Crowns, with several veneers on the front lower teeth. The color I picked was the 2nd to the whitest on the color panel. I always wanted to have really white teeth and my smile was narrow…that is why I got the work done. Now, 7 years later, my teeth look almost 2 shades darker. I was told that the porcelain would not change color. What is happening and what can I do about it? My new dentist indicated that as I age, my real teeth are getting darker. My original dentist never mentioned any such thing. I thought I would always have a bright white smile.,

What to do with chipped dental veneer?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am 36, I had 6 front veneers on the nhs when I was 19. They are now of course falling apart and chipping. My dentist has given me many patch up jobs with fillings to hide the gaps. I am 33 weeks pregnant and today, one of my front teeth veneers chipped. I wondered if I would be able to ask my dentist to just replace the front 6 veneers for me? I think if I have just one replaced it will look odd. Would he charge me? I don’t think I would be able to get credit accepted! Also I found it very painful the first time and wonder if I should wait till after I have the baby? Many thanks,

Why have gums receeded after veneers?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hello, Back in May I had a veneer fitted to one of my front teeth. Prior to having the veneer fitted I was advised that lasering the gum line above the tooth would make it more symmetrical – therefore I went ahead with this too. Since this treatment my gum appears to be receding and therefore the edge of the veneer is now visible. Why has this happened? and is there anything that can be done to reverse this, or to at least stop further recession of the gum? Or will I need a new veneer? Many thanks,
