What can be done to a half broken tooth surfacing below gum-line?

Friday, November 6th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have just returned from a visit to my dentist today. My appointment was for preparation for a crown on upper molar, second from back. This tooth had broken in half followng root canal treatment and filling 5 years ago. My current dentist put a temporary cover on it and we left it for six months to ensure that the seal hadn’t been breached. When he removed the temporary today he advised he would be unable to save the tooth as what was left of the tooth was partially below the gum-line rendering a crown that would not be viable. He suggested either a bridge, which he felt was not a good option due to the grinding down of the adjacent teeth and suggested an implant at a cost of £2,000. Having done some research on the internet some sites have said that crowns can be placed even if there is only a root left (that has had root canal treatment) and a post can be inserted into the root for the crown to be attached to. Can you advise if this is a possibility please? I look forward to your response. Many thanks.

Will crown lengthening procedure affect in having an implant?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Q.
I had a crown on my front incisor, next to big tooth, and the tooth broke at gum level. I have had a root filling and a post put in with a temporary crown. My dentist wants to do a crown lengthening procedure and fit a new crown. Is this the best solution and will it affect my being able to have an implant if there was a problem with the tooth in the future as I understand they remove some bone? Thanks

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Q.
Hey Andrew, I was just wanting a little bit of advice please. I have a Cap on one of my front teeth, and a crown on the other. The Crown is now a different shade to my other teeth. They are all a little bit uneven. Would Veneers be the best opition? If so, how much could i expect to pay? Thanks in advance,

Post crown with its socket cracked need a bridge replacement?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Q.
I have a post crown which came loose, my dentist reseated it. He said that it maybe that the socket into which the post is inserted may have cracked, in which case he will have to replace the postcrown with a bridge. Is this the only possible alternative and what does it involve. I would appreciate your advice

Invisalign recommended for straightening with crown and bridge already present?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Q.
Dr Solanki, Would a product like Invisalign be suitable for someone who has a crown on one of their two front top teeth and a double winged bridge on one of their lower left teeth? Are there any other options that could be used that have the same effect of straightening teeth that have gaps between them that could be used? Thank you for your time

Having same crown for a long time has caused dark tone

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Q.
Hi I have had a crown in place for 15 years+. Think it must have metal in it as I now have a dark tone to the gum above the tooth. Can this be rsolved or is it a case of replacing the crown with another material? Thanks.
