Are dentures best option for painful and decaying teeth?

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Q.
I have a real serious problem. I went to a dentist because my teeth were just breaking apart piece by piece. They ended up pulling all my top teeth and gave me a denture. They said they could save my bottom teeth with root canals and fillings. Well after thousands of dollars almost everyone tooth on the bottom has now broken off and I am in serious pain. My grandfather, mother and sister all have had this happen to them too. Sometimes I can just run my tongue over my teeth and my teeth come off in like a gooey substance. There is not much left and I stay in pain. My dentist really screwed me. Can you tell me what is wrong with my teeth? I am sure I need dentures now on the bottom but after all that I paid and still paying I can’t afford to do anything else. In pain in Washington State,

Is there any treatmentn that can help with decaying teeth?

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am 21 years old and have an 18 month old daughter. over the past few years my teeth have started to rot away and can sometimes be very painful. i cannot remember the last time i went to the dentist as i have a fear of going there. at the moment i have lost a tooth on the top row and now have only a quarter of a tooth that did originally have a filling. i have noticed when i brush my teeth on the bottom row i can now c through a tooth and see the gums beneath which really shocked me, as i did not know how bad they had got. Please can you recommend anythin which is not too expensive that can help me please?,

Can damaged tooth be repaired?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I have a very badly damaged front tooth. On the top row, one of the teeth has a large section missing, exposing the gum. The back of the tooth is fine and healthy. An NHS dentist has seen it in the past but was not able to do anything about it. The tooth is getting weaker and it’s getting gradually harder and harder to eat even the softest foods. I know it’s my own fault but would really like to get it fixed and don’t know what options to look into. Many thanks for any help you can suggest. Kind regards,

Due to grinding I have gum receeding and loosing my smile.

Friday, December 4th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Tennet, For as long as I can remember I have suffered from bruxism. I sleep with a nightguard which my NHS dentist made for me but my gums seem to be receeding as a result of the grinding, which I think has now led to gum disease, and my upper anterior teeth are becoming very thin and I’m terrified of them snapping off altogether. I’m only 27 and hate my smile. My teeth seem to be wearing down and decaying very quickly and I’m terrified of having to wear a denture. Do you think crowns and possibly gum grafts may help me? I really don’t want to lose my teeth and my NHS dentist doesn’t seem to care.

I need to change my dentist as my teeth in total are messed up.

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q.
I am a 29 year old male and near enough all my back teeth have either fallen out or are decaying really badly. I have my front teeth however I feel unless I am able to get some help with this I then they will go the same way. Not to bore you with the details however I have been through a pretty tough time over the past few years and medication has not helped with the decyaing of my teeth I feel. Due to this I have not visited a dentist for years and this has meant I have ended up with the teeth I have. I am now at a point where I both need and want to do something about them and I feel if I could get partial dentures to the back of my mouth, both upper and lower this would help me out. The problem I have is that I live in Scotland, (Glasgow Area) and I do not know who to go for to help me out and also any idea of the cost I would be looking at for this. I am totally and utterly embarassed by the way I have let my mouth/teeth get into the mess they have. I do now however need help and would hate for a dentist to give me into trouble for the mess of my mouth as I am already mortified. Any help or assistance you are able to give would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks very much in advance

Is any other fillings better than Silver fillings?

Friday, November 20th, 2009
Q.
My back teeth and top back teeth are filled with silver fillings. My dentist wants to replace them all due to some decay. I have requested white ones or cerac, however, he suggests that they should be filled with the usual silver fillings because they are stronger and lasts longer. I have one back tooth which is broken in half. My dentist has suggested keeping this tooth and filling the other half with silver filling and not undertaking a cerac fitting. I am not whether I want to replace my silver fillings but, he says white fillings don’t last long and are prone to decay, and he went to a cerac demonstration and did not think much of it. This is a private dentist which specialises in cosmetic procedures. Should I seek a second opinion? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pain post tooth filling

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
Q.
I’ve just had a filling – there was decay under an existing filling (spotted via X-Ray) and some of the original filling had to be removed to remove the decay underneath and then place new filling on top. It has been 18 hours since the filling and I am still very sore. Is this normal? It’s 4am in the morning and I cannot sleep because of the pain/soreness. I could not brush over the recently filled area before going to bed either as it felt very sore/sensitive. I have had fillings before and cannot remember the pain post-filling lasting this long. Thank you
