I was totally dental phobic as a child due to bad

Monday, November 3rd, 2008
Q.
I was totally dental phobic as a child due to bad expereinces at the dentist with tooth extractions and, as a consequence, I never wore a brace. Now, as a result, I have severely crowded teeth. The 4 front teeth (incisors?) aren’t really affected and are relatively straight but the canine teeth stick out Dracula-like to the extent that I can’t bite on them at all and they poke through my lips if I smile. There is really very little gap between the second insisors and the premolars next to them and the canines stick out above them. Can anything be done for me? I don’t want to wear a brace at my age (early 40s) and think my only hope is to have the canines removed and try to do something with the remaining teeth. My teeth really are the bane of my life and have made my life a complete misery over the years. It seems to be getting worse lately and is making me quite depressed and is having a real negative effect on my life to the point that I feel quite depressed most of the time. They are on my mind constantly and I have no one to really share all this anxiety with as I feel so embarrassed about my teeth I won’t draw attention to them. I even change the subject if anyone so much as mentions teeth! I feel that if I could get my teeth fixed all this would stop and I could finally enjoy my life and actually smile and not feel scared or embarrassed to smile. Nowadays, I read about all the marvellous advances in cosmetic dentistry and I think more and more that a few thousand pounds spent on my teeth would be money well spent if it made me feel that my life was worth living. To me, to have teeth that I didn’t feel embarrassed to show the world would be better than wining the lottery. Can you help or advise?

What does a smile say about you

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008
Q.
Hello. I’m a student journalist and I would like you to answer a few questions. What does a smile say about you, intentionally or not? How do you “read” another person’s smile? Why is the smile an important communication tool and how can good oral health improve our sense of well-being?

I am now prolonging the mild discomfort, and lack of confidence

Friday, October 31st, 2008
Q.
Hi, I’m 21 years old and, although I do my best to maintain my teeth, I feel I am now prolonging the mild discomfort, and lack of confidence they create, plus I am guessing that eating on one side of my mouth to avoid pain cannot be healthy long term. I have many fillings in many teeth and should have cared for my teeth much more during childhood and my teenage years. I am at the stage now where the constant trips to my dentist are costing me hundreds of pounds a year due to fillings falling out etc, and as a result I have decided to restore them once and for all. I am interested in a full mouth reconstruction, however, all my teeth are still in place, albeit with a golden glow, only broken by areas of black; would the fact they are still there cause a problem or limit my options? I have read about implants, mini implants and bridges, as I would obviously want to avoid dentures if at all possible. I am hoping that I can only have work on the teeth that are on show when I smile, both upper and lower, and simply have fillings in the back teeth. It seems to me that a bridge would be my cheapest option, with implants being the most costly, but would a bridge be able to extend from one upper 6 across to the other and the same for the lower teeth? Also, I would like the ‘false’ teeth to be quite white, as they would not be on show with any of my other teeth; would this be possible? If it were possible to have a pair of bridges of this size, could you advise me as to an approximate cost I would pay. If a bridge of this size was not possible mini implants would be my next choice, however, I am unsure of how common surgeries with this option are; could you please advise? And would the mini implants also be able to extend from the above stated teeth, and could you please advise on a approximate cost for this method with my estimated sizes? I understand that these surgeries depend on factors such as gum and bone structure, but, if my mouth is able to accommodate, as mentioned above would I need to have my remaining teeth removed (at extra cost?) or would they preventnall together? Thank you for your time

Do dentists use models for pictures on there websites

Sunday, October 26th, 2008
Q.
Good morning, Just a quick inquiry! Do dentists use models for pictures on there websites or for general advertising in magazine or posters that really have had teeth knocked out or removed and would they generally get a discount on there treatment if not free? Or do they have any new dental treatments that you need someone in my condition to experiment on? I am asking these questions because i am a 24 year old man who almost 2 years ago was assaulted and i have had 3 teeth knocked out from my upper jaw and 2 from my bottom jaw and i desparate for them to be fixed. Thanks for reading i hope you can reply!

cost of teeth whitening and straightening consultation

Sunday, October 26th, 2008
Q.
Please could you advise on the cost of a consultation. I am keen to find out more, and indicative prices, about teeth whitening and also teeth straightening, probably using braces rather than veneers to avoid having to have them replaced relatively frequently. Many thanks

do you know a cosmetic dentist in chennai

Sunday, October 26th, 2008
Q.
Dear Dr Komai Suri, The website looks really good and useful and is the first I have seen of this kind. I want to ask what I should or could do about my teeth which have been worn down by grinding at night. I’m 28 and have now started to wear a mouthguard. The tips of my front teeth are transparent and sometime shatter due to years of wear during the night. My dentist at home would simply grind off the very end to make them even again..however this can’t go on for ever and I now notice the length as well as the transparency. Would veneers be an option if I was to continue with the mouthguard? The other and perhaps most important question is how I can find a very good dentist for this sort of things here in Chennai, India, where I am now teaching for the next 2 years. ? Do you know of anyone, or could you put me touch with someone who might know or what should I do. The thought of taking a gamble on this sort of thing is terrifying!! Thankyou in advance for any help you can offer
