I Smashed A Tooth When I Was Younger, I Need Advice On How To Fix My Smile?

Friday, November 8th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I fell down a concrete stair well and smashed my front tooth when I was 9. I have had a lot of work on my teeth over the years and braces as well I have been left with a large crown. That gets infected month after month.  My dentist gave me the option of a tooth on a palate or just take it out and leave a gap in the front of my mouth. I don’t want a gap and a palate would make me sick with the food getting stuck under it and my gum has turned purple and it is shrinking back from the front tooth, my 2 front teeth. Now I have an overbite, I have gaps now in all my upper front teeth due to the work over the year. I have asked for my teeth to be fixed or if not all at least my front crown, the dentist has told me that I would have to be referred and it’s a cost of £2000/£3000 just to get my front tooth sorted, I get NHS credits as well so I don’t pay. I have had to change my Dentist as they just keep giving me antibiotics every month, I don’t not know if the infections is coming off the crown and spreading in my mouth. I get puss filled lumps on the front of my gums and you can see them when I smile. I would just like someone to just help me I sick of the pain and the infections and I would just like a nice simple smile. Thank you so much if you can reply.

What Treatment Options Are Best To Straighten My Wonky Front Teeth?

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, my teeth are all nice and straight except for my two front teeth which are quite on the wonky side and give me a goofy look. I was wondering what would be the best procedure to straighten them? I’m a bit dubious about braces as people I know who have had them have ended up with poor quality teeth afterwards and I’m 25 so may look a bit stupid with braces! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’m Looking Into Getting Braces For My Top And Bottom Teeth. What Financial Options Can I Obtain To Achieve This?

Monday, November 4th, 2013
Q.

I’m looking into getting braces for my top and bottom sets of teeth. It’s something that I have been thinking about for a couple of years now and feel it will help me feel better in myself. The bottom set are the worst out of the pair due to my wisdom teeth coming through and pushing teeth out of position which has caused me a lot of pain in the past. I am on a low wage at the moment and would like my teeth fixed, is there any way to get them fixed through a finance plan? For example, pay monthly with no interest rate or any other ways, and also could you tell me if there is any highly rated dentists in the Nottingham/Derby area? Thanks.

I Want To Know If My Specific Problem Can Be Solved With Six Month Smiles Treatment?

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, My dentist recently told me I have a “relatively mild malocclusion involving a class 2 division, 1 incisor relationship with a 6mm overjet and a 2mm midline diastema in the upper arch”.   I was wondering if I would be able to get jaw surgery for the overjet or would braces alone fix that problem. Also would 6 month smiles fix it or do you think having braces on for about a year or 2 will be better. My dentist has not said anything yet about it so I want a second opinion. Thanks.

How Effective Are Braces Over A Bridge, And Will The Movement Of Teeth Be Restricted ?

Monday, September 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr. Andrew, I am wondering, if you could possibly advise me on my current dental condition. I am 24 and have a bridge on my upper four front teeth (the central and lateral incisors, as I believe they are called) as I had an accident and lost a central incisor and cracked the lateral. Now I wish to have orthodontic treatment on both my lower teeth and upper, as I have crooked teeth on the lower and an overbite (overjet) somewhat caused by the bridge. I wanted to ask how effective the braces would be over a bridge as the movement of the teeth underneath might be restricted by the bridge. What solution do you recommend? Thanks for your help.

My Confidence Is Affected Since Turning Fifty. Can I Fix The Gap In My Teeth Through The NHS?

Tuesday, August 27th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I have really a large gap between my front tooth and the one right of it, also a gap on the left hand side as well as the middle and I really hate it. I am coming up to 53 years young, and need to find out if it’s too late to do anything about, as I have lost a lot of confidence recently, since hitting my fifties and now I hate having my photo taken when I have to smile. It’s really embarrassing for me.   Also, if there is something that can be done, would it cost a lot of money or would it be something I could get through the national health? I look forward to your reply. Kind regards and Thank you for your time.

Good Day, Is It Possible To Fix My Overbite With Braces?

Tuesday, August 27th, 2013
Q.

Good Day,

I’m 23 years old and have always been in need of braces/dental correction as I have an overbite on my front teeth which is quite deep. I’d hate the idea of wearing metallic braces or any sort of braces really that are visible as I would feel very conscious of them, at the same time I do need correction. I was wondering if sub-lingual braces could be a solution to my case and if so, how long would the treatment last and how much would it come to? As I travel a lot and tend to move country every 6 months to a year due to my job, I’d like to try the quickest or easiest solution, without having to sacrifice my job or having a beautiful smile. Do You think Invisalign could be a solution for my overbite as well? Many thanks.

I’m Want To Know The Length Of Time It Takes For My Braces To Work Before I Go Back To School?

Friday, August 23rd, 2013
Q.

Hello, I received ceramic braces a few weeks ago. I’m very worried because before I had braces, my two front teeth were at the same level. Now, the right tooth has become longer than the left one. I have to go back to school in August and I’m concerned, I don’t want people to make fun of my teeth when I talk or open my mouth to smile. I want to know how much longer I have to wait for my two front teeth to become the same level? Thank you for your time and help you can advise me.

Can A Missing Tooth Cause A Change To The Bite?

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013
Q.

Dr Butt, can a missing tooth cause a change to the bite? My right canine has been missing for 10 years but for the last 2 months my bite doesn’t feel right, I cannot chew properly and I fear the enamel on my molars is wearing. I wear a nightly Essix retainer to maintain the space and the denture in the day so I do not understand why this is happening. Should I consult my orthodontist about it as it is really worrying me? I’m not sure what I should do, I don’t know if this is truly happening and I just don’t understand why this is happening now when everything has been fine over the last 10 years. Can hormonal changes cause this? I’ve always taken care of my teeth, I just don’t understand. Thank you for any advice, many thanks again.

My New Retainer Caused My Straight Smile To Look Misaligned, What Can I Do?

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013
Q.

hi i wondered if you could please advise me on something? i have had braces on in the past, and my teeth after were perfect, but since having a retainer which i lost on a holiday my teeth moved, and in the front two teeth a large gap has occurred, i went back to the orthodontist and they moulded a new retainer which cost me 60 pound, for a retainer of the moved teeth which i wasn’t happy about, is there anyway of fitting a new brace on free of charge, as the price of braces are too expensive due to fact of i am only 18 and still in college. This means that I can’t receive treatment free through the NHS doesn’t it? I don’t know what to do, the retainer just completely ruined the new movement of my perfectly straight teeth! Surely my orthodontist should do something about this? Thanks for any advice!
