How Effective Are Braces Over A Bridge, And Will The Movement Of Teeth Be Restricted ?

Q.
Hi Dr. Andrew, I am wondering, if you could possibly advise me on my current dental condition. I am 24 and have a bridge on my upper four front teeth (the central and lateral incisors, as I believe they are called) as I had an accident and lost a central incisor and cracked the lateral. Now I wish to have orthodontic treatment on both my lower teeth and upper, as I have crooked teeth on the lower and an overbite (overjet) somewhat caused by the bridge. I wanted to ask how effective the braces would be over a bridge as the movement of the teeth underneath might be restricted by the bridge. What solution do you recommend? Thanks for your help.

Hello. It is very hard to move teeth held in with bridges, you may need to remove the bridges and consider implants instead. Either way you will need to see a very experienced orthodontist who will hopefully point you in the right direction. Thank you for your enquiry. Dr Moore.
