Would you recommend orthofill bands for the gaps in my teeth?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
Q.

Would you recommend orthofill bands on diastema ? If not what type of braces would be best ? I have general spacing between the front six upper teeth. (all the gaps are around three mm’s apart) .My teeth is also pretty straight on the top and the bottom .Would I need to have braces on my lower ones,if though they do not need it( as I have herd that if you cause movement on your top,you will need to adjust the bottom too).
Thank you !

Will the prep work of veneers damage my teeth?

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011
Q.

Hello. I would like to do no prep veneers, however I don’t know what are the risks? Can tooth deteriorate under them? Do you give any guarantees? Can bonding material cause damage? I think that maybe my teeth will need protection not only from front but also from back side, are there no prep veneers that cover tooth from back and front? Because I don’t want any level of tooth tissue to be removed.

Why will veneers make my teeth look bulky?

Friday, July 15th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I want to have veneers on my two top front teeth as I dislike the shape and colour of them (I currently have composite fillings which are unsightly looking).

Two dentists however have told me that veneers would look bulky on my teeth. I don’t understand – why would they look bulky if a veneer is the same thickness as the amount of tooth removed?

My teeth are in line, but I do have a 6mm overbite (which does not bother me). Would this be why they might look bulky?

I have slanted front teeth but cannot have braces because of my baby tooth.

Friday, May 27th, 2011
Q.

hi there, i just wanted some information from you. my front two teeth are slanty because i have a baby tooth which cannot be removed because my dentist said that if they put braces on me then that baby tooth may fall out because a lot of pressure will come on to it, and there is no other big tooth behind it. so i just wanted to know if you could do anything to them to make them straight?or if you can straighten my teeth and make my baby tooth look bigger? and how much would this cost? thanks

My crowns have fallen out, can I get them rebonded?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Both of my dental crowns just came off tonight after having them put on about 10 years ago following a dual root canal on the two molars immediately behind my canine tooth. Is it possible to have my dental crowns rebond ? If it is possible, how much does it usually cost to have them re-bonded? If it isn’t possible, what are my other options? At the moment, there is no pain, but I am freaking out alot because I can feel my teeth that had been ground down.

Home teeth whitening kit has left my teeth blotchy. What could this be?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

I recently purchased teeth whitening from my dentist. I had custom trays and was informed to bleach overnight. after a couple of days my normally even teeth became a bit whiter but much more uneven. I was away on business so called the dentist and they said to keep going and it should even out. But since I was not at home near my dentist i didn’t want it to get worse especially on my front teeth. My dentist suggested i continue on one back tooth and see what happens. So i continued on one tooth for about a week, but the uneveness did not go away so i did not continue with the bleaching. When I returned a week ago to show my dentist, and return the kit she said I was correct to stop and that she would call the company who provided the bleach. They said this can happen sometimes. In any case, she said there was nothing that could be done and to leave it and not use whitening toothpastes. I am now left with patchyness which I am very aware of and bother me and miss my normal teeth and regret starting this process. Will the bleeching eventually fade and go back to how my teeth were before or am I stuck with this uneveness? It has been four months since I stopped bleaching and I don’t see any fading of the patches that are whiter than the rest of my teeth. Can you please advise? Is there anything I can do without continuing to bleach b/c i am worried to continue as worried it will get worse. is there another treatment? My dentist thought it was more likely that this was something under my teeth that has come up (don’t know if it is calcium deposits) as a result of the bleaching than uneven bleaching b/c they were custom trays. Please help! Thanks

I have painful wisdom teeth but am afraid of the dentist. What can I do?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi there I have a wisdom tooth coming in and it has always been a LITTLE painful, like a dull pain and I thought nothing of it, Iv had this light, dull pain for a year or more but recently (the last week) it has been getting sorer and sorer and now Ive booked-in to see my dentist on Friday 22nd April. I brush frequently, always make DOUBLY sure to brush my coming-in wisdom teeth as much as I can and use mouth wash and do the odd flossing in a week. I have a fear of the dentist because I have a fear of needles so this is why I take SUCH good care of my teeth. I am 20 and only have 1 filling which I got as a child and some white plasticy coatings in the grooves of most of my molars that my uncle gave me as he is a dental hygienist.
The gum around my painful Wisdom tooth is VERY red and swollen and the pain can be too much to handle, Ive been taking Anadin to cope with the pain better but even the rubbing of my tongue when I swallow or talk or eat is painful as it rubs the swollen bit of gum.
Ive set myself up for getting it removed but I am VERY scared of needles in my mouth and just thinking about it makes me cry LOL Im just wondering if theyd still use General Anaesthetic with me? Im in Scotland.
Thanks

Can the cement for bonding wire retainers cause lips to be sore?

Friday, March 11th, 2011
Q.

Mark, can the cement used to bond bonded wire retainers to the teeth after orthodontic treatment cause a sore mouth and lips? I’ve had to have it redone at a different orthodontic practice as it had worn over time but since i’ve had it done my lips feel sore and inflamed. The cement feels smooth but its a different feeling of smooth as to how the cement felt in my mouth previously from when it was first done. Have you seen this at all in patients and whats the best thing to do – thanks

Hi my retainer tastes strange, what should I do?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I hope you can give me a solution. I had Invisalign for nearly two years, and now have a retainer bonded onto the back of my teeth. Since I have had this retainer bonded on, I have had a strange bitter taste coming from it when I touch it with my tongue or when I swoosh saliva around it. I had the original plastic one removed and a metal one bonded on to see if this helped, but i still have this horrible bitter taste.

I assume it is the bonding used. Please help me, as I have lost faith in my current orthodontist.

Sue
