Will the prep work of veneers damage my teeth?

Q.
Hello. I would like to do no prep veneers, however I don’t know what are the risks? Can tooth deteriorate under them? Do you give any guarantees? Can bonding material cause damage? I think that maybe my teeth will need protection not only from front but also from back side, are there no prep veneers that cover tooth from back and front? Because I don’t want any level of tooth tissue to be removed.

Hi and thank you for all the great questions.

Whether or not you are actually suitable for ‘no-prep’ veneers or not, would need to be fully assessed by an appointment where we can meet and examine you face to face. They are ususally quite challenging to carry out and not suitable for everyone so this consultaiton is crucial.

The scope of your remaining questions we should also be able to cover at this appointment too but to give you some general answers, over time there can be deterioration under a veneer but it can take years, as long as it is bonded well in the first place. Bonding material in itself does not cause “damage” but the enamle is very slightly altered by any bonding process – this however is just on a microscopic level and not really visible to the naked eye. Veneers of all kinds can be made to cover the backs of the teeth as well as the fronts, if you are suitable.

Hope that helps?

Kind regards

Mark
