can composite bonding be removed easily and will the underlying tooth look normal?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q.
I had a small 1mm gap in my upper two front teeth filled with composite bonding a year ago. The results are great, and it looks really natural. However, I have recently decided to investigate braces as I have come to the conclusion that i would like to straighten my teeth. With this in mind, i would like my dentist to remove the composite bonding, so that a brace can be used to close the gap permanently. First, can composite bonding be removed easily? My dentist did the filling so well, it seems impossible to tell which is tooth and which is bonding? So, is it possible to remove it? And will the underlying tooth look normal? Also, when the filling was done, the bonding was polished and i can see a less shiny surface on some of the surface of my teeth. I will ask the dentist to polish this after the gap is revealed again, but If some bonding remains, does this effect how well fixed brace brackets would stay on? Also, when the brackets are removed at the end of treatment, would the bonding have stained, is this permanent, or would polising after the brackets are removed get rid of it? Thank you for your time.

what could a dentist do to fill the small triangular gap between my to front teeth

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q.
I have a small triangular gap between my to front teeth and I think it looks very unattractive. What could a dentist do to fill the small hole? I have read articles on the internet about bondings and fillings but I don’t really know what they are. Also if the gap was to be filled, would the use of a needle or braces be needed? Thanks in Advance.

why do you think my dentist was so rude to me regarding the suspicious dark spot on my teeth

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, I left my former dentist after she refused to bond a gap between my front teeth. She said that the hole was too large and by bonding it, my teeth would look extra big. I respected her decision but still wanted the gap bonded. I went to another dentist who bonded the gap, and started going to him regularly for a year. This dentist told me that I had a suspicious dark spot on my dental x-ray and referred me to an endodontics. Instead of seeing the endodontist, I went back to my former dentist and he was really rude to me. He told me that if I went to another dentist he would not see me again. Plus, while he was treating me, he hurt my mouth over and over again and when I would flinch or moan be told me that I was over reacting and that everything hurt me! This made me angry but I did not say anything. I kept thinking that as soon as I get out of this chair, I won’t come back! Why do you think he was so rude to me? Was it not my decision to seek another dentist after he would not bond my gap. By the way, the bonding looks great! Thanks

is it true that dental hygenist should use instruments pastes technique to clean bonded teeth

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
I had my 2 front teeth bonded (for a small space and a little chip on one front tooth) a year ago and was told it doesn’t need any special care and can be cleaned normally by the dental hygenist every 6 months (which it has been), but I have recently read (online) that a dental hygenist should use different instruments/pastes/techniques when cleaning bonded teeth in order not to damage the bonding. Is this true? I actually have noticed less shine on my bonding (I can see where the bonding is when looking in a ceratin light) and wondered about the cause and what can be done about it. Also, I was wondering, is there more of a chance a cavity can form around a bonded tooth? I would really appreciate information about all this, thanks!

Monday, May 18th, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr. Patel, I’ve done composite bonding to close the gap between my two front teeth in 2007. Since then, the bonding has broken out three times in the same spot. The dentist have seen me in 2007, 2008 and now 2009. Why is the bonding not working?

My dentist asks me to have bonded retainer and transparent retainer is it necessary

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hello doc.. i’ve been wearing braces for 1 and half years and I will remove them by next month.. so, my doc suggested bonded retainer and I’ve worn it since. Now, when the braces will be completely taken off, he asked me to wear the transparent retainer as well. Should I follow his advice or just go with the bonded retainer, and not wearing the transparent? or perhaps I just wear it for upper teeth? thanks for your help..

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
I have had chipped front teeth for about 10 years (since I was 8) The dentist ask me if I would like bonding done he said it would be a 8.lBl (what ever that means) he said he would bond one tooth and smooth out the other front tooth. I am asking if I go through with it can I use whitening strips and lets say the bonding “comes off” would my underlying tooth be like it was before I got the bonding?

my daughter bonded teeth is shorter and discoloured than the other can you advice

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello, can you please help!,i have a very distraught 16 year old daughter who a couple of months ago chipped one of her front teeth, leaving a semi circle chip at the bottom of the tooth. We took her to our usual dentist and he filled it,and it looked ok,but about 2 weeks later it came out, this happened again, then on the third time it came out she saw a different dentist as the other had left,he seemed to file down even more of her tooth and did a terrible job on the bonding, as now her tooth is shorter than the other and you can see a colour difference.I dont want to take her back there again as i feel it will just be made worst again!,can you give me some advice on the options for her tooth and recommend a good cosmetic dentist, this is quite upseting for her as she feels it has ruined her lovely smile. Many thanks

the bonding in my front tooth is often chipped off is there any other option

Saturday, April 18th, 2009
Q.
I have recently had my two front teeth bonded to close a medium size gap in my front teeth. However, after only a couple of months the bonding has flaked/chipped off one of the tooth. I have had to go back to the dentist each time and he does repair the bonding at no cost. Just wondering what are my other options or am I stuck doing this procedure every few months. Also, I have no real bad habits of biting my nails or eating hard foods.
