My dentist asks me to have bonded retainer and transparent retainer is it necessary

Q. Hello doc.. i’ve been wearing braces for 1 and half years and I will remove them by next month.. so, my doc suggested bonded retainer and I’ve worn it since. Now, when the braces will be completely taken off, he asked me to wear the transparent retainer as well. Should I follow his advice or just go with the bonded retainer, and not wearing the transparent? or perhaps I just wear it for upper teeth? thanks for your help..

A. It is usually one or the other- but from experience, I would take his advise. He is a specialist in his field of expertise- and I would listen to what he has to say. If no retainer is worn, then your teeth probably WILL move back to their origional position and all of the treatment you have had would have all been for nothing!! If you have any doubts- then I would strongly advise that you stress your concerns with your orthodontist- who is the best person to advise you on YOUR treatment. Hope this has helped.
