I would like to replace my gold crown and wish to know more information about the crown and the cost involved.

Q.

Hello Dr Moore. Today I have been for a check up with my dentist. I was informed that I needed a new crown. The present one is gold. The tooth that needs the crown is at the back of my mouth. I am a NHS patient I wanted to have a gold replacement however, I was adviced that the NHS do not replace gold crowns with gold and If I wanted gold I would need to be a private patient. Instead I would now have to have a silver.on NHS so I asked what materials and metals were in the crown . The dentist was not able to answer my question.Nor could anyone else at the surgery. I was told to check online.
Also I was asked to pay for the treatment before any work would take place. I have paid £209 is this usual practice? I have never paid upfront before.

Should I get a crown after my root canal treatment?

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I have had pain in my back tooth on eating or drinking anything cold for over a year now. I recently visited Andrea Ubhi’s dental practise in York, on the first visit I was told I needed root canal treatment, on the second visit that I needed a crown fitting because of a crack in my tooth?! I would be greatful if you could advise me on what do you suggest I do now? Thanks.

Can you suggest a treatment that can move my teeth back into place as quickly as possible?

Monday, September 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Solanki, I am getting married in November and I had braces approx 4 years ago, but after having specifically requested from my dentist a wire to be attached to the back of my teeth, my dentist refused and told me a retainer was much more effective. Unfortunately I did not wear my retainer as I should have as I was in a customer facing job so my teeth have moved slightly – and mainly the front 2 which is really bothering me. I am wondering if there is any way of having a plate or similiar constructed to push the teeth back into place, it really is quite minor as when I put my retainer back it only has about 3mm gap from stopping it clicking back into place. Can you please suggest any methods that would assist before November other than veneers? Many thanks,

Should my dentist be responsible for replacing the cap and the work required to fix my problem?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
Q.
I just had my very back tooth capped last year and had gone back to the dentist for my yearly check-up and was told that I had a leaking tooth where it was just capped which indicated decay. Should the dentist be responsible for replacing the cap and the work required to fix the problem. They mention several times how well I take care of my teeth with brushing and flossing so I do not think it was my fault. Please advise, thank you!,

Do I go for the crown or should I leave it and seek an implant in the future?

Monday, August 9th, 2010
Q.
I would like to know if you really recommend to have a crown done after a root canal. I have all my teeth and they all look good, I am 39 years old, and had a small decay in one of my back tooth (so said the dentist) and after having the filling done my face became distorted and I got an infection that lasted few weeks. The problem is now sorted, I changed dentist and had to do a root canal. Because the treatment took too long, I ended up losing quite a bit of my tooth during the treatment. The dentist now said that I will need a crown to strengh my tooth. I am not keen on that as I think more of my tooth will be gone after that. The tooth looks fine to me. What should I do? I am originally from Brazil where we value a lot our teeth, being toothless there means you belong to a lower class or that you don’t hve good personal care. Please what should I do? Go for the crown or just leave it and wait if my tooth breaks in the future and seek an implant or something like that? Woud veneer be any good? thanks,
