Are my recent symptoms a result of my orthodontic treatment?

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012
Q.

My othodontist fitted a herbst appliance in my mouth stating that i have a narrow jaw and a deep crease on chin. I did not have an overbite and from the information i have received herbst appliance is used only for children? It has widened my jaw and completely changed my appearence.

In addition to this, he widened my dental arch to such a degree that it was not natural. i asked him to remove the herbst appliance after a few months as it was painful and I have also asked him to reduce the size of my dental arch. He has done this but as a result, i have been suffering from dizziness and pressure on my nose. Is this normal? Can this cycle of expanding and reducing the size of my arch have an effect on my teeth. He never seems to explain what he is doing and why.

Is my dentist using Social 6 braces correctly?

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011
Q.

Hi Doctor, I am a bit confused. My lower arch teeth are a bit crooked. I went to a dentist a few days ago and he proposed to fix them with minimum impact with “Social 6”. This would imply scraping off a bit of the enamel of my teeth to provide for some extra space for the teeth to move back into position.
I liked the dentist, and I was quite pleased the treatment did not imply removing my wisdom teeth, but reading some comments in this forum I gather that fixing the front 6 teeth (as apposed to the whole arch) and, above all, scraping the enamel off my teeth is not “good practice” and should not be done. What’s your view about it?
Many thanks for your time.

Kind regards

Will the Damon Brace solve my front tooth arching problem

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

I am 36 years old and my front top teeth are arched up at the right due to years of thumb sucking. Will Damon Braces work, as of course the bone structure is also pushed up, or is there a better option?

My midline and my bite are off centre and I can’t afford metal braces. What is the next best thing?

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
Q.
hi, my teeth are in a bad way. when i was younger my baby teeth werent coming out and my adult teeth were begining to grow on top of them, so i had a mass extraction of my teeth but unfortunately they left an extra tooth in the top arch making my teeth shift to the right and an extra tooth in the bottom arch making them shift left. the result is my midline is off and so is my bite. I cant afford metal braces but that is what has been recommended. what is the next best thing?,
