Does my daughter need different antibiotics or is it necessary to remove the tooth?

Q.
My 6 year old has had a course of antibiotics for dental abscess. It has improved but not resolved. Does she need different antibiotics or is it necessary to remove the tooth? Also she has decay in another tooth and the filling has fallen out. Could this tooth be treated with a crown. I have been advised to leave it as it is as it is not painful but is there a risk of further abscesses developing if we just wait and see? Thank you for your advice.,

Should I get a second opinion?

Q.
Following an abscess (and antibiotics) I had a root canal filling in October last year. My dentist told me that he hadn’t been able to fill all of it due to the location of the tooth. Recently a piece of this tooth broke off and I have more pain which he said wasn’t caused by the tooth breaking off. I am on another course of antibiotics and he says that it’s probably not worth trying to fill the tooth again and only option may be extraction which will cost between £400/£500! I have a morbid fear of dentists and cannot tolerate an xray being taken. I am due to return next week but I am dreading what he will say, should I get a second opinion?,

Is dentist right in saying daughter cannot have braces until she is 12?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, Our daughter is now 6 yrs old and she has her adult 2 upper front teeth and 2 front lower teeth through – our concern is that although she cleans twice a day with an electric toothbrush, they appear yellow and speckled with white patches. She has been in hospital a few times on strong intravenous antibiotics and we are concerned that this affected her teeth as they were ‘forming’ or growing through? Also, her top 2 teeth are similar to mine and quite large in comparison to the ‘average’ size and havea large gap in between them – I asked our dentist if a brace would be needed and he advised that he would not begin to ‘touch’ her teeth with a brace until she is at least 12 or when all of her adult teeth are through – is this normal because I had a brace fitted when I was still in primary school – so under 11 yrs old. Thankyou,

I am terried of dentist but would antibiotics help?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
Q.
Hi I broke a piece off an already filled, front molar about a year ago, my dentist very skillfully removed the old filling and effectively re0built me a tooth from filling. I had recurring niggles with it,& have taken a few courses of antibiotics to settle things down. Apart from the tooth feeling slightly looser than the rest, all has been well until a week or two back when I had pain, and my dentist thought I had an abscess, one more lot of antibiotics (which don’t agree with me at all), the pain has mostly, but not completely gone. My dentist mentioned that if the antibiotics don’t work then root canal and crown will be the next move. I have had a root canal in the past that didn’t work (but have a crown which has done sterling service), so I am unsure as what to do next. Since my filling tooth is a bit wobbly is a crown worth trying, would that maybe give it more stability, (I half wonder if I have the abscess now due to the movement in the gum), do I ask to try another lot of antibiotic even though I know they’ll make me feel ill, or, cut my losses, have the tooth out and then think about a bridge or implant, although I am terrified of dental treatment and have no idea what each of these involves; I’ll be happy as long as I’m sedated!!!! Sorry it’s such a long question, but hope you can advise,
